Thoughts on employer mandatory Flu vaccine...
Honestly I can't believe I actually read through this nonsense. Jobs make rules if you don't like then leave. Hospitals require other vaccines and if we don't have antibodies then you get them are you arguing that as well? Did you get hepatitis and tetorifice vaccines? So basically my advice is suck it up and deal with it. There is nothing that is 100% but it's better than nothing. There is no conspiracy and we won't end up autistic. Let's act like the knowledgeable professionals we are and stop this debate. Do the right thing for yourself and your patients!
Mandatory coercion maybe. Lose your job and become homeless because you have "the right to refuse" or take a shot you don't want so you can keep working at your job and paying your bills?
There are other jobs to choose from, even if it means working outside of healthcare if one feels SO strongly about it. There are choices to be made, so be it.

Yep, mandatory coercion which is on the same lines as employer mandated OSHA requirements, keeping up with your nursing license, washing your hands, mandatory use of carcinogenic substances in the workplace, etc.
People worry about the flu shot when it is one of the safest and most beneficial parts of our nursing jobs. http://www.wsna.org/Topics/Workplace-Environment-You/Workplace-Hazards/Chemicals/documents/05.aug.pdf http://www.medscape.com/viewarticle/818437_1
I think in the future you're going to have to accept it in the interest of remaining employed.
travel/temp nursing. flu shots are mandatory during flu season (Oct- end of March). Work half the year doing travel or local temp assignments, and depending on your lifestyle, budget needs, other skills, etc. either take the winter off and spend it working on other things that are important to you, or do other types of work.
my first winter as a nurse i worked full time and the facility didn't require flu shots, i just signed a form stating i don't consume animal-derived products (i.e. eggs) and no one gave me a hard time. since then i've spent a winter in southern Italy, and two flu seasons bartending at a ski lodge in Park City (which paid as much as my nursing gigs).
everyone wins. the melodramatic pearl-clutchers are happy that i'm not infecting their patients with a seasonal flu that i've only had twice in my life and never as an adult, and i win because i don't allow a corporation to force me into violating my beliefs, and i get to have fun and sometimes well-paying adventures.
avoid nursing during flu season entirely, and remain in control of what goes into your body, if that is important to you.

He wasn't misdiagnosed. She cured him with vitamins.
Sorry I was just injecting a little humor into the debate.
