Fired but asked to resign!

Nurses General Nursing

Published

Hello fellow nurses,

Its been a while since posting on ALLNURSES.COM, however I feel compelled to post at this time.

Just recently (last Friday the 29th of Jan ) I was FIRED or better yet asked to resign from my position as a PEDS RN at a local hospital where I had been employed at for 2 years.

They fired me on the grounds that I had disregarded the attendance policy.

What baffles me is that I have seen several nurses and staff disobeying our attendance policy numerous times, by clocking in late or even calling out.

I feel that I was terminated more so for personality conflicts with staff in upper management. I am young and attractive, I get lots of compliments from patients and family.

They fired me and said Im a great nurse but hospital policy, blah blah blah on attendance.

I really feel discriminated against. Either because of race or maybe because of politics. All I know was I was terminated unjustly.

There was a nurse who even hooked up old IV tubing to a new patient thinking it was that patients tubing. Then come to find out that old tubing belonged to a patient who had HIV....

This RN is still working there!!!! Im hurt and feel as if I was wronged....

Can anyone give me any insite?

Maybe an opinion?

Thanks

Maria

After reading some of these responses as well as others....makes me that much more relieved I don't do nursing for a living. :)It's really no point in arguing. My points are pretty much proven. I just feel for the nurses out there who still have a good heart.

It is what it is. Learn from it and move on. At your next job, just lay low and don't be a hero.

I just did a double-take. HUh??

I've seen it happen and I've heard of this phenomenon in nursing. It seems like the higher you're self esteem is ,the more compliments you get,the better you look and feel, can actually get you ran off the floor faster. Are you in shape? Do you stand up for yourself when you are disrespected? This seems to be one of those "professions" where the more you smile coming into work the faster you will get terminated. Never seen anything like it.

Wow, isn't this the solid truth. Let's practice wellness at our places of employment and compliment one another when we shine!!! Great post!:yeah:

I don't know about you all, but a little less B.S. goes a long way.

Hilarious responses. What wouldn't I give to see the expressions of the faces behind the computer screen typing these up.

Lol at "wah".

For myself, you'd see gray-haired and tired, with eyes rolling at the assumption by nurses, new or old, that the workplace is all about them.

In the real world, the job is not a therapy group. No one denies that there are toxic workplaces with immature people motivated by vanity, jealousy and office politics, but I'm not convinced that the OPs job is necessarily one of them.

With regard to the OP, the only personal responsibility she took for her situation was for being "two minutes late", once. Sorry ... no-one gets fired for one incident ... and two minutes late isn't even an incident! There is much, much more to this story than is being told. IMHO, the OP's post is dishonest.

And some posters want to chastise me for realizing this and not dredging up happy-sunflower-words to validate what was clearly a distorted, agenda-driven story? To quote Judge Judy, don't pee on my foot and tell me it's raining. After reading that post, I'd have fired her, too.

To the OP: I agree that it's highly unlikely you were fired for being 2 minutes late or being attractive. There has to be more to your story, do you have problems with you co workers? Are you a team player?

If you want to keep this job, maybe sit down with your manager and tell her that you really want to be given a second chance. Tell her that you feel you have hit a 'bump' and want to improve and will do what it takes to learn from your past errors. Assure her that you understand the attendance policy and wish for the chance to show that you can be punctual.

Here is another example of the kind of behavior that some nurses have..... Its responses like yours, that make me question how someone could be so cold to another.

:lol2: I never seen anybody getting fired for being pretty..there are a lot of pretty nurses around,do you mean to tell me that all of them got fired??? The management dont care how you look. They do care though how you perform. But thanks for a good laugh.:lol2:

Lets be honest....

more than likely the OP p*ssed someone off that had more pull in the company than she did.

The easiest way to terminate someone is by using the time and attendance policy. Its cut and dry, and impossible to fight in court.

Oh Maria, darling. Please reread what you just wrote and try to keep a straight face... I can't! There's so many purported excuses in there, conveniently none of them your fault.
