No replies from students please!

Nurses, are you frustrated with trying to read theses forums only to find that most of the posts are from students or nurse wanna-be's looking for medical advice? You can usually tell them by the poor grammer.

Can we have a forum created for experienced nurses only to post?

No flames, let's just be honest here.

I still would like to see a forum specifically for PRACTICING RN's, a safe place to vent and bounce things off each other.

But, as I see already from responses on this thread, students can't seem to follow directions and not post where they're not asked to.

So, as with everything in nursing, another good idea down the drain due to lack of support. Nothing will ever change in this profession.

I don't think that your idea is all that bad and I think that it could get supported, I think it's just that your OP started out as being very offensive so the idea got lost in the message.

If I'm understanding you correctly, this is how I'm interpreting it:

You had a horrid day at work or something unusual happened, and you just want to vent or find out if the same thing happens to other nurses in other units/hospitals, and want input/advice from others who've been there or just want some understanding and support and need to vent......

Then a student pops in with a "Oh my God, I'm about to graduate and this post is scaring me-did I make a mistake to enter nursing?" or "Do all nurses get bitter/burned out or have bad attitudes like that?" when all you want to do is vent or get some input from people who've been where you are.

If that is where you are going with this, then yes, I see it happen to threads and I really don't like seeing the topics turn into consoling/counseling nervous students or comments about "bad attitudes" because they are still in a very idealistic stage of the profession and lack the experience to really understand where you're coming from but.......

They really can't help but to be curious about what's being discussed by experienced people and they want to be as informed as much as possible about "real world" nursing as well as decide what area they want to work in after graduating.

I sometimes get curious about changing specialties so I'll pop in a specialty forum and find out what goes on in the cath lab, for example, or another area that I'm clueless about. I'm not trying to invade, just want to find out some info.

Just curious...were you BORN a nurse??? That must be an awesome experience, to have become an RN without ever having to be a student!! Congrats to you. I hope you don't express this type of attitude towards your patients because you sure don't come across as a kind, caring or supportive person. How can you talk about LACK OF SUPPORT when that is exactely what you are doing by wanting to ban students from posting?? To me that isn't being very supportive of your fellow future nurses. You are right though, as long as there are nurses with YOUR attitude, things in this profession will never chnage. It is a shame....

These forums are open to all members. Sometimes experienced nurses will post in student forums as well. Women post in the male nursing forums. There's nothing exclusionary here.

If there are certain posts you don't like within a thread, you are free to pass over them.

i think that there are a lot of nursing specialty threads that most nurses could find a niche

however there are students out there who have not decided on what field they want to go into after graduation so they might want to drop in and see what the nurses in the different fields like/dislike about a field

also what is praticing rn exactly...med-surg, er, cath lab, pscyhe, clinic,

ltc, teaching, pedi, icu/nicu,

Sooooo, what would you qualify as an experienced nurse? 1 yr, 5 yr, 10yr?

The only thing that irks me is all the NCLEX posts. Sometimes they can be combined.

I wish that I had allnurses when I was in school.

A couple of difficulties with this idea.

Many posters (I am one) pull up the BB by looking at threads with new activity. As such, I often do not note the forum. If I have something to add, I add it. If not, I don't.

I believe that you will find many of us do this.

As far as students not following directions, this is not really unique to them. Every day, there are posts all in caps, or posts from recruiters, or posts in foreign languages....despite the rules/TOS against those posts.

And as far as people not reading, one can review the several hundred threads on the same topics, day in and day out, because people post the same things over and over again, without bothering to read what is already here. Many of these are by experienced RNs.

I think my favorite is the myriad posts that literally show up ALL over this BB, often in inappropriate places for nurses/prospective nurses that wish to emigrate to the USA.

(G-d bless Suzanne and Lawrence, they have repeated themselves on how this works so many times, their fingers must be numb from typing, and yet people continue to repeat the same questions over and over, despite clearly marked forums)

Yes, there are times that I would love to vent w/o NS around. But there are times when I would like to vent w/o: Avid cell phone users, "mommie nurses/mommie students", the marrieds, conservatives, liberals, BSNs, ADNs, Diploma nurses, the former CPA/MBA/med student/IT specialist going to school because nursing "so easy and well paid", nurse manager as G-d almighty, CNA/LPN/MA/Med Tech "that does everything an RN does", Union fans, union foes, and people that are not nurses explaining how they can fix "Nursing" (S. Gordon, are you listening?).

Yes, life would be easier without dealing with these people, that don't understand "me". But life would be really boring, and a bit too easy.

And the valuable things in life are not easy.

HMMMM! Breaking the rules here student nurse butting in. As student nurses we don't ask for medical advice we often ask relevent questions to get a feel for what it is like when we do get out "there". I'm not asking "hey I have a big boil on my butt what should I do?" I am asking for honest advice or guidance or because of honest curiosity not because I am a lowly student wiff pour grammer!!

I agree they can be combined, particularly all the ones, "oh, I think I flunked". They can have a separate forum just for that!

I can actually see where you are going, and I see that you are from Texas, so you realize that LVN's have pretty much the same experiences/autonomy as you. Are you saying that LVNs are not allowed to answer on this possible new forum? Pretty much the only thing Rns can do that I can't is hang blood, then LVNs do all the vitals and after care.

I can also see several peoples view points over the OP being so blunt. You catch more flies with honey than vinegar.

BUT, I have to say that it is just as easy to "skip" a post and go on. If you are sooo into yourself that when a student gets upset over a post and wonders "should I continue to do this" that you do not want to respond, guess what!! You do not have to respond. WOW. What a concept.

OP, Oh, and by the way. You are not GOD, so I am assuming that you do not know everything, so therefore you ARE A STUDENT FOR THE REST OF YOUR LIFE. Because any GOOD NURSE will admit they are continuosly learning.

If you want the forum, sure go for it. But I vote that OP not become a moderator until he/she understands that she is not my boss, this is a public forum, and I can guarentee that students will still post. (Isn't this America?)

Who here has the wonderful signature stating "don't judge a person by the typos in their post" or something like that?
