Actually I would appreciate a forum created for actual practicing and experienced nurses only. I don't have a problem responding to student's questions, but truthfully, sometimes it is a little frustrating to see so many posts saying "I am only a student, but in my opinion..." The real world of nursing is nothing like school or other professions. Many times I really need feedback from others who are actually doing this job. I have greatly reduced my time spent on Allnurses due to this problem.

No, I'm sorry, I don't feel that way at all. I enjoy reading posts on this forum and I have learned alot over the past three years by doing so. I began reading and posting as a nursing student and now I am a "working" nurse. Am I an "experienced nurse" after having only worked a few months?? Maybe not, but I am a nurse just the same:nurse:. I found alot of comfort and encouragement on this forum and I encourage students to continue reading and learning from people who have made it through because we have alot to offer. I do agree that people should not be on this forum seeking medical advice, but I don't believe that those kind of people make up most of the posts.

I don't feel it is fair to criticize people's grammAr on this forum. No one is perfect and computer forums are traditionally much more relaxed than every day writing or speaking.

I see your point.But mommynurse2B got ya on that one.LOL. I kinda enjoy reading the posts from the students. I look at it this way, they are just trying to learn. I'm a RN, and still trying to learn about different diseases,medications, procedures, etc. that I'm not familiar with. And, my grammar really stinks. No flaming here.:wink2:

hmm... well I know this was certainly a problem on the CRNA boards so they set up a students board and encourage it's use. I'm not so sure about this general board but it does seem like students keep their more inexperienced clinical discussions there. Otherwise, on the specialty boards I read the most it seems most participants are experienced nurses, certainly when I have a question I get good solid answers from people who know more than me. Sometimes I'm really in the mood to help a student or new nurse, other times I may skip over a thread. But if there's something specific for more experienced nurses to discuss there might be need for a specific board.

Very true..It would be the member's choice if they wanted to participate in that type of forum. So, I don't really see any harm in it.

OK, I really see Zias's point. Actually I specifically chose to do my RN to BSN completion at a school that doesn't have a true BSN undergrad for that reason. I heard too many complaints from nurses sitting in classrooms with idealistic students arguing about what nursing shoukd be like and how they should do their jobs. I love idealism but sometimes you need someone who understands realities. I guess if I hide out in the OR board enough, I never hear the opinions of students, LOL.

BTW, Running, I love your entry under years of experience!

Clarification- I don't see any harm in starting a new form for experienced nurses.

nurses, are you frustrated with trying to read theses forums only to find that most of the posts are from students or nurse wanna-be's looking for medical advice? you can usually tell them by the poor grammer.

excuse me but i am an lpn and a nursing (rn) student. as far as the flaming goes, aren't you doing a bit of that with the remark about "grammer" (which you yourself misspelled). i've seen plenty of posts by practicing nurses with incorrect grammar and atrocious spelling. some of that may be the laxness of posting things online and some of it may not be. in real life i've come across bsn's that leave me wondering how they made it through school and nursing students and nurse aides who are obviously quite bright. also, is wanna-be really proper english?

I totally agree. If I need specific advice for my practice I go to the speciality forum for Emergency Nurses.
