I work on Easter this weekend, and I was just wondering if most hospitals pay extra for this holiday or not?

I used to work every other Easter.

Specializes in Palliative, Onc, Med-Surg, Home Hospice.

Mine doesn't. It only recognizes Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years, Memorial Day, July 4th and Labor day. Oh well. At least I still get nigh diff (don't get weekends for sundays on nights either. Only friday and sat)

Specializes in SICU, trauma, neuro.

You'll have to ask your work. ;) Back in my CNA days, I worked for a Catholic LTC and a Catholic hospital, and I believe both of them did consider Easter a holiday. In recent years though, none of the places I've worked for have--including a Presbyterian SNF. Our paid holidays now are New Year's--1500 on NYEve to 2359 NYDay--Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Christmas Eve (thank you, Here.I.Stand's employer!!), and Christmas Day.

I wish they did...I love Easter and would rather not be working it...but such is life.

Specializes in Med/Surg, Academics.

Easter is the holiest day in the Catholic calendar, and last year, another Catholic health system in town removed it from their holiday pay list.

I love irony.

Specializes in Emergency Nursing.

My old job paid double time holiday pay for every holiday and your birthday. My new job is inly time in a half for thanksgiving, christmas, and new years day.

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

Mine doesn't pay extra for Easter, just whatever weekend/shift differential comes with working a Sunday. All of the facilities I've worked at consider Easter just another Sunday.

I'll be working NOC this Easter.

Specializes in MICU - CCRN, IR, Vascular Surgery.

I work in a Catholic hospital, Easter doesn't get holiday pay. Only Thanksgiving day and Christmas day, no other days out of the whole year.

That is rough. :(

This girl is not getting paid extra for working Easter. My facility only reconizes federal holidays even though we are a Christian Based facility. New Years, Memorial day, labor day, 4th of july, thanksgiving and christmas.

Specializes in Medical Oncology, Alzheimer/dementia.

I work for a Catholic healthcare organization. No holiday pay for Easter. I work the weekend program, so I work every Easter Sunday.

I previously worked for a Catholic nursing home. Easter was not considered in the holiday rotation, but if it was a scheduled day for us to work, we were paid time and a half.

Specializes in Med/surg, Onc.

Nope just another Sunday. We get paid for Memorial Day, July 4th, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Xmas day, New Year's Day.

Specializes in 15 years in ICU, 22 years in PACU.

Nope, mine just recognizes the usual Federal holidays.

I agree it's ironic a Catholic Hospital doesn't consider Easter a payable holiday.

I was once a travel nurse in Hawaii and got extra for working on Prince Kuhio Day (March 26).

not a holiday in my system either.
