Fill in the blank with any advice you can give students who have just been accepted into a program or who are thinking about embarking on the journey of nursing school.
Here's mine:
DON'T GO INTO NURSING SCHOOL IF you haven't done your own research about the realities of the profession. Good, bad, truth, and common myths & misconceptions.
Yall's turn!
Being a nurse has caused me to LOSE weight lol. It's hard to gain weight when you run for 12 hours straight and rarely get to take a lunch.[/quote']Same here. I lost weight in nursing school and once I started working as a licensed nurse. My activity level increased 10-fold. The two main gals that gained weight in nursing school both got pregnant so weight gain was necessary
Ok...back to the post...
Don't go to nursing school if you have issues with "fish outta water" syndrome; there are many times in this business where you WILL have to learn-learn about the culture of your workplace, learn the importance and the WHY or nursing, and most importantly, how to hone your nursing judgement. It may be a "pain", but once you "get" nursing, you will understand.
Don't go into nursing school if you think you're done learning at graduation or even after orientation. Nursing, and healthcare in general, is a dynamic field with so many changes that require one to continue educating themselves. It doesn't necessarily have to be formal education (i.e., higher degrees) but keeping up to date on evidence-based practice and new innovations through workplace offerings and continuing education opportunities (conferences, journal articles, etc.).
