Fill in the blank with any advice you can give students who have just been accepted into a program or who are thinking about embarking on the journey of nursing school.

Here's mine:

DON'T GO INTO NURSING SCHOOL IF you haven't done your own research about the realities of the profession. Good, bad, truth, and common myths & misconceptions.

Yall's turn!

Hmmm, let's revisit this statement after you've worked night shift for a year or two ;-)

Study Finds 55 Percent of Nurses Are Overweight or Obese - ABC News

But really, don't go into nursing school if you don't like to care for people. Even people who are smelly and rude need care.

Being a nurse and being overweight are not necessarily related. Try putting into a calorie burn calculator just how many calories are burned on a 12 hour shift. As I stated before, eating more calories than you need for your body is how you become overweight. I'm a cna and have never worked as hard as I do now at any job. And if we're going to play numbers the CDC states that 69.2% of Americans over the age of 20 are overweight. That means, less nurses are overweight when compared to the average American populous. Therefore, your point is moot. Jobs don't make you overweight. Bad habits do.

Ok. You go with that.

Twelve hours straight.

And if you have babies at home and want to continue breastfeeding, you can kiss that dream goodbye...

Breastfeeding my 5th baby right now. Breastfed my other four for 1-2 years each while working. Sure I don't pump as often as moms with an office job can, but I can count on one hand the number of times I went an entire shift w/o pumping once. If a patient isn't crumping, this mama is pumping! Things like codes, trips to CT, status changes, post-ops or admissions get priority; things like charting, body fluid dumps, noncritical meds, bed baths can wait for me to go pump.

I follow the same principles w/ eating/drinking/peeing. I mean really, how many things truly cannot wait the two minutes it takes to pee or chug a cup of water??

Just throwing that out there!

Lol huh?

I understood everything and assumed the ending, blabla was blah blah.

The poster was saying that not everyone follows osha standards and complies with HIPAA at all times.

-if you expect the instructor to hold your hand

- if you cannot prioritize

- if you have a woe-is-me complex

- if you are unaware of your learning style or how to study

- if you do not know how to balance your life

- if you are unwilling to find ways to handle stress in a healthy manner

- if you are not willing to grow as a person and if you are ultra sensitive...

- if you believe you are better than anyone( techs, aids, etc) everyone has value including housekeeping!!!!!

- if you think nursing school will be easy

Don't go into nursing school if: You expect to stay beautiful and skinny your entire lifeesp if this is your career fresh out of college at 22. Expect to become obese, sorry that's the way it is. Also expect some under eye bags and dark circles(courtesy of working nights).[/quote']

I disagree. I run half marathons, teach group exercise classes, and eat healthy!!! I'm not a twig but I'm at a healthy weight!!! This is the wrong attitude. I do understand how hard it is to raise a family, work/school and stay healthy, but it can be done!!! I have three boys, homeschool, volunteer, and stay healthy. And yes I take some much needed glorious time for myself too!!! It's called time management and motivation :-)

As for the bags and dark circles... I totally agree with you on that one!!!!

Probably a veiled reference to the number of threads we had a couple of years ago from new grads who couldn't get along with their co-workers and decided it was because they were just so darned beautiful that everyone else was just jealous of them. If you're looking for entertainment, dig up those threads. Some of them are hysterical!

Hahaha I'd like to know why someone said don't go into nursing if you are really pretty? Good looking people can't be nurses?

Yep! that's exactly what I meant!!!

Haha reading these comments brings back memories of school. Every comment describes someone or multiple someones you will meet in school. So here's mine

A-find any comments in this thread mean or offensive

you expect to re-enact Grey Anatomy.

Eh, I worked day shift for a year, what I transferred back to nights, I lost over 25lbs. To each their own. You just need to know how to eat.

Which did you mean? That you can't be a nurse if you're pretty? Or were you referencing the "They hate me because I'm beautiful" threads?
