Online Master of Nursing Programmes
I am interested in studying for a Masters degree in Nursing BUT I would prefer an online programme so I can work while studying. I know of Athabasca University and also recently found out about University of Lethbridge. Are there other universities in Canada with online MN programmes? Furthermore, I am interested in research and would eventually love to work as a research nurse. Would a graduate degree in nursing ( research route) help me in this regard? I welcome comments, advice and tips. Thank you.

Interview Written Test Portion
I have had two interviews with a written test component. One was a mix of MCQs, fill in the gaps and a few drug calculation questions. At the other interview, I had to do more writing as their questions were more like; List Six types of ....... , Explain the rationale for......... , What are the major...... , . As to what to expect, I think it depends on your specialty. I work LTC so had questions pertinent to the population we work with; Dementia, Diabetes, Falls and prevention, Drugs and side effects, Diseases like CHF and COPD, Supervision of Health Care Aides, Abuse of seniors in the workplace, Dealing with difficult residents and family members. Best of luck at the interview

The University of Alberta?
I am presently a student in the AD program at the U of A. I do agree that CBL could be time consuming and tiring. However, after one semester, I am beginning to see how everything does come together and help one think critically. Sure, I would prefer the traditional lecture but I will endure all of CBL to graduate in 2 years with a BSCN. And the program is not bad. The first semester of the program, we have 4 hours of clinical each week at a long term residence. For the second semester it is 3 days of clinical per week in a hospital ( 2 weeks on, 2 weeks off). After one semester, I can say that the program is tough, time consuming, seminars could be tiring (it is all talking, but YOU LEARN A LOT TOO), labs are practical and you get hands on experience. Classes are very large (for lectures or FRS as they are called), 150- 220 students; professors are the same as every where, some are fabulous, others are to put it kindly inadequate. One thing for sure, get ready to do plenty of studying and do not expect to be spoon-fed. Concerning the amount of time you have to spend studying, doing research to write your different handouts for seminar and all the rest, although I have a postgraduate degree in another field, I did find it quite challenging but DOABLE. And with time one adjusts to the whole CBL process and it does not seem as stressful, at least for me. I think any person who gets into nursing should expect to see plenty of bodily fluid, poop etc. I certainly expect to see that and I am sure a lot of students in my cohort do too. Practical (clinical) experience? I do not see a problem if you are committed to wanting to learn, are humble enough to admit you do not know and are willing to ask for help. For those considering the program, I say ``go for it.``

Dreading L&D/Peds
I want to encourage you to adopt another mindset on the issue. In my culture, we say that children call forth children. We say that a woman who has a hard time having her own baby might attract children to herself when she plays with and takes care of other people's children. So tell yourself that your working in L&D and with children is calling forth your own children. I pray that God will bless you with your own soon.

Nursing student survival tips
Thank you for the advice from the bottom of my heart. I am starting the After Degree nursing program this fall and I have been reading through the site, hoping to glean as much useful tips as I can. I have three children, all under 10 years and getting a suitable daycare for my soon to be 3 years old son is top on the list of to-do things before school begins in September.
