Fill in the blank with any advice you can give students who have just been accepted into a program or who are thinking about embarking on the journey of nursing school.

Here's mine:

DON'T GO INTO NURSING SCHOOL IF you haven't done your own research about the realities of the profession. Good, bad, truth, and common myths & misconceptions.

Don't go into nursing school if you're not willing to put the work into it. It's hard work and you have to be motivated to succeed. If you're not, let someone who is take your place.

Don't go to nursing school if you're afraid to drive in the snow, cannot be at work during a hurricane or other weather disaster and don't see why you should have to work Christmas anyway.

Don't enter nursing school if

-your only goal is to meet and marry a doctor.

-you are so beautiful that everyone is jealous of you.

-you need positive reinforcement for EVERY SINGLE thing you do correctly.

-you can't abide being corrected.

-you think anybody who actually does correct you is only doing it because they are jealous of your youth and beauty.

-you think old people are smelly and gross. There are lots of smelly, gross young people too.

-you subscribe to the school of thought that you should be respected right out of the box without having to prove yourself.

I don't think that comment about prayer had any place outside the Spirituality forum. Whether or not the poster was making a jab at atheists or agnostics, it SEEMED to many as if he was. Therefore it was inappropriate.

Actually my husband was convinced of all of this stuff going into nursing school. He has learned he actually now enjoys patients and tolerates everything else quite well.

He's not doing his RN to be a bedside nurse. There are many other things to do with an RN. It's okay to go into nursing school with some alternate plans.
