Hi,
I'm a school nurse in the northeast. We are closed for at least 2 weeks, but I anticipate it will be much longer than that. I really do hope that we get to a point where it is safe to reopen, but my gut is saying that we might be done for this school year.
What are your thoughts?
I'm in the Houston area, and right now, we are scheduled to return on May 4th. The school year was originally supposed to end on May 28th. I really don't think we are going to return this year, and I've heard that Houston is possibly going to be one of the next hotspots for the virus. The numbers are still climbing every day in my county.
I think they are going to wait as long as possible to make the announcement that we are not returning this year, in order to keep the students motivated to continue working. If they think the year is over, they'll stop completing their work; I know my daughter will!
They still think we're going to be able to go back in May and get a month and a half in. I don't think that's realistic. I'm preparing for both eventualities.
I've compiled a list of a few people like the diabetics that if we DO go back, we're going to need supplies like insulin refreshed. It will be at least 45 days of open time of the vials. I may have to check to see what other meds for chronic conditions I have to worry about if we go back.
Spooky, RN

Dang... ? Well, it's just a matter of time when we'll find out the same thing with our school district.
