Do you think schools will resume this year?

Published

Hi,

I'm a school nurse in the northeast. We are closed for at least 2 weeks, but I anticipate it will be much longer than that. I really do hope that we get to a point where it is safe to reopen, but my gut is saying that we might be done for this school year.

What are your thoughts?

My kids are out until next school year. First it was til March 30th, then revised til April 10th, then revised to next school year.

Dang... ? Well, it's just a matter of time when we'll find out the same thing with our school district.

I've got my doubts we're going back. They're saying May 1, but that's subject to change. If we do go back, I don't know if they'll extend things either. I've got a plan worked out if we do start back up, but I'm also working on just moving on to next year.

I'm in the Houston area, and right now, we are scheduled to return on May 4th. The school year was originally supposed to end on May 28th. I really don't think we are going to return this year, and I've heard that Houston is possibly going to be one of the next hotspots for the virus. The numbers are still climbing every day in my county.

I think they are going to wait as long as possible to make the announcement that we are not returning this year, in order to keep the students motivated to continue working. If they think the year is over, they'll stop completing their work; I know my daughter will!

I am in NY as of now we are closed until April 29

In WA, we usually go through the 2nd or 3rd week of June. Gov. and Sup of Pub Instruction declared today: no more in class instruction until next school year. Our district closest to the first cluster in the nursing facility closed March 4.

Here in Texas we are out until May 4th but that could change any day. The county I live in does not have any confirmed cases at this time. The county I work in has many cases. I think its just a matter of time before we are told we will not return this year.

we're out here in nj at my district until 4/17, but I am positive that we will not resume on the 20th. Each time I happen to talk to office staff, I feel more and more certain that we miiiight go back in June to close out, but that's it.

PA Gov. Tom Wolf orders Pennsylvania schools closed through rest of academic year. My community has posted on major streets signs supporting graduating Seniors.

Yikes, I expect school nurses will be very busy come Aug. Sept. restart.

They still think we're going to be able to go back in May and get a month and a half in. I don't think that's realistic. I'm preparing for both eventualities.

I've compiled a list of a few people like the diabetics that if we DO go back, we're going to need supplies like insulin refreshed. It will be at least 45 days of open time of the vials. I may have to check to see what other meds for chronic conditions I have to worry about if we go back.
