For example, this one nurse told me she signs RN next to everything she signs now - eve check- which is so retarded and no warranted for in my book. your thoughts?

if it becomes the case of showing your licneses' off, then can you imagine howit becomes when the buildling contractor want to list all of his qualifications after his name and so on? :)

Sometimes I do. It's done without thinking - usually when I've stopped somewhere on my way home from work. Somebody shoves a piece of paper and there goes my signature - complete with RN, date & time. My daughter's school gets a kick out this - they know exactly when she's asked me to sign something!!!

It probably makes people pity her more than anything else; her little life is so empty and narrow her whole self-worth and only claim to fame is being able to use those initials behind her name.

I've never used those initials outside of work.

I've never done it, but I've come close to doing it out of pure habit when signing checks, etc. I have to stop myself just about every time.

I am so happy to see that others do it without thinking at times, lol.

I will do sign RN behind my name at the grocery store, etc when I am distracted and trying to do it quickly. I will also sign my name to letters to township administrators and letters to the editor when I am fighting for public health issues.

I think it is scaryier that there are those that write the initials of professional organisations behind their name, ever. Sure I'm an RN which makes me eligable to pay several hundred dollars to become a member of the organisations but does itr make me cleverer to write those initials behind my name?

As for RN, it gets written on all sorts of things the better half makes me sign at the most inoportune times...usually as I walk in the door from work.

Funny this posts comes up now. I just had my youngest shove a paper in front of my face and told me I needed to sign it. I read it, noticed it said signature so I signed,

I have on occasion, signed LPN after my name, but not on purpose. Like the others, its usually after working or thinking about something at work.

I've done it a few times.

But I cringe more when people use "retard" or "retarded" as a put-down. It makes my heart ache.

Yep, I'll join the rest of you with the accidental signing. :coollook: Usually a check as I'm trying to hurry.

But never on purpose. I think that is silly. :D

(Agree about the word "retard" . . . .:crying2: )

No.

While mental retardation is not a bad word, when used to describe someone or something you think is bad it becomes another thoughtless hurtful word. People with mental retardation are not bad, their condition is not bad, the prejudice and discrimination to people with mental retardation is BAD...and WRONG!

Please stop using the word 'retard', it hurts me and my son with developmental disabilities.

Here, I thought we were adults AND live in 2009. I guess I was wrong.

If I stop at the grocery store on my way home I need to consciously try not to do it when I sign for my credit card.

I've done it by accident, but never just because.

Specializes in midwifery, gen surgical, community.

If I signed RN after my name, people would assume I was in the Royal Navy. Same goes if I signed RM (Registered Midwife). They would assume I was a Royal Marine!!!!

Would never put RN after my name in any place except work.
