Do you sign "RN' after your name OUTSIDE of the hospital?

For example, this one nurse told me she signs RN next to everything she signs now - eve check- which is so retarded and no warranted for in my book. your thoughts?

if it becomes the case of showing your licneses' off, then can you imagine howit becomes when the buildling contractor want to list all of his qualifications after his name and so on? :)

Not on purpose... but I have found myself adding the RN from time to time by accident, tired after a long shift, when I am writing out the checks for my bills; or when signing a receipt in the grocery store. I am sure the billing people and cashiers are so impressed haha.

One time I signed my sons field trip permission slip with RN behind my name...totally accidently of course, I always sign 1st initial last name and it was Monday mornig at 0730 I had worked Sat/Sun 3rd shift --of course it was in pen....oh well the teachers know I work 3rds...

But on purpose? Never.

On purpose? No. Thats stupid. Being a RN has nothing to do with my personal life. I occasionally catch myself writing it without realizing it though.

I have to admit when I first got my license (like first week) I did it. I was SOO proud of myself for passing boards. Now, nope, no way.

wrote my title on a check once by accident! glad to hear others do it too!

do it all the time....not particularly legibly.....i figure anything that may make ID theft harder or easier to detect is cool with me

wow, i hope i'm not adding that - i hardly pay attention when writing my name, and adding that rn bit has become such second nature.

i think i'd better pay closer attention next time i sign those checks:idea:

No- I am not at work, no one needs to know what my job title is.

The first week I got my license though, I wrote my name on notebooks, papers with RN at the end because I was so proud of myself to have passed that hard test!

That's sort of like insisting people call you Dr. So and So, when you have a PhD in Llama hearding or somesuch, isn't it :)

Nursing is not who I am. Rather, it is what I do for a living.

Since nursing is not a major part of my identity outside the workplace, I make a deliberate effort to never sign my title next to my signature unless it is related to the job. I have a preference for the spheres of home and work remain separate because I certainly need to maintain my sanity.

Please don't use "retarded" as an epithet; it's disrespectful to people with developmental disabilities.

In answer to your question, no, not generally, though I might do it deliberately sometime if I want to invoke my expertise outside of work. For example, if I were to write a letter to the editor discussing a public health issue, I'd sign it RN.
