Do you raid the patient fridge?

Published

Time to 'fess up ladies and gents. :clown: Who here raids the patient fridge, and if so, what is your fav? Are you guilty of jello diversion? Or, is cookie addiction your weakness? Do you limit yourself to graham crackers and milk or do you go for the hard stuff?

This is an anonymous online forum, time to spill yer guts...

As for me, I used to be a weakling for jello. I like red jello, but my favorite is orange. I'm now in recovery from that addiction.

Now I'll have an occasional mini box of wheaties, and an occasional cookie if they aren't too soft. Graham crackers and milk make a quick snack when my blood sugar gets a little low from skipping a meal.

When I worked nights at my former job I was thinking of assembling a small recipe book from patient fridge items. One of my staples then was a microwave grilled cheese sandwich.

Sure I do it....discreetly of course!!!. Here is what I will do. No time for a break and a patient cannot wait for the IV start or they have a broken CVC or any other problem that cannot wait....and I cannot wait...I go for it. A no break trade for some apple juice and some crackers. Also will have some pudding once in a while. If I have time I much prefer to go to the cafeteria...they have more things that I like.

Oh heck yeah. I pilfer all the time; usually turkey or chicken salad sandwiches, or pudding. There is usually MORE than enough. I used to work somewhere where you were lucky to find anything. Our fridge up here is kept pretty well stocked.

we have little cans of V8 sometimes. The residents who hate pickles always give me theirs too.

Ice cream, chocolate ice cream to be exact!

We get a tray of fresh cut up fruit to give the pts. for an evening snack. And a tray of cookies. Sometimes I like to snag some of it. Just a piece. And mint tea in the morning. But tomorrow I'm bringing in a casserole for the girls to share. I like to bring things in. Someone should start a thread on potlucks. And the weirdest things you have seen/eaten at them. I'm too tired to start it, but I once saw a roasted goat's head at a potluck, worked with a lot of girls from the Carribean. Now you can believe that was one heck of a potluck.

I always loved the chocolate mousse and ice cream.

I was pretty naughty when I worked on the wards. The food isn't too bad at my hospital. If a patient was discharged and the bed was empty I would still order the meal anyway and not tell the kitchen staff the patient had left so I'd get a nice free hot meal... :nuke:

I usually don't eat much at work but a hard day with no break...drinking some apple juice and eating a couple of crackers helps a lot!
