Do you disclose AN to coworkers

Published

Do any of you SN folks let your coworkers know that you are on AllNurses ?

If so, do you disclose your username ?

Are you comfortable with this ?

Just curious. I do not want anyone I work with to know or identify me on here.

Thanks !

Oh HELL no!

That said, I was at my local Panera this afternoon, and there was a gaggle of nursing students taking up the biggest tables at lunchtime (the place was packed and there were little old ladies cruising around for a place to eat their lunch) with their laptops and their books. They had been studying and they were apparently on a study break -- not eating or drinking anything, you see, just cruising on AN and arguing about the latest iteration of the "Nurse Bully" thread. I could hear every word. I SO wanted to walk up to their table and say "I'm Ruby Vee."

That would be worth the price of admission!!!

I would never share a forum like this with a co-worker. That goes double for revealing my username/identity. Nope, nope, nope.

Who is your avatar with the shag and bangs?

No way, lol. I used to have a more identifiable user name, but changed it ;P Everyone needs a place to vent. Everyone needs a place to get information...sadly, some of us are not able to get it from co-workers or even supervisors :( Thank goodness for AllNurses!

Nope, nada, never. I'm in the mindset of don't ask, don't tell. I don't trust that some wouldn't run to management over any perceived comment.

I learned about AN from a co-worker when I was a brand new nurse. I signed up with a photo of my self and Spidey as my avatar (Spidey was a baby) and my name was my real nickname.

Initially I was merely an observer. As a new nurse and a person completely unaware of the internet and all that goes with that, I was not very savvy about privacy issues. Fortunately, AN let me know that I should not use a real photo of myself or my real name. I changed it.

That co-worker didn't stay on AN long.

I do tell some people I'm a "Guide" and bring up threads at times. No one I know locally is on here . . . that I know of.

When I was a school nurse for 5 years, I did "friend" on FB a few of the teachers who were actual friends of mine outside of work. But yeah, hell no would I tell anyone at the school about AN. I ranted on here regularly about a certain principal.

Also, back in the beginning of starting to be a hospice nurse, I ranted about a crazy social worker as well.

So, people could easily figure out my true identity.

I've become real friends with AN members and met a few in person.

My hospice friends know I'm here but none of them have signed up.

Ruby Vee - we all think you rock. It would have been fun to "out" yourself with those students but you would need to take us all along to enjoy the moment with you!

I would've jumped on the thread and posted that I was there and could see them... then watch them frantically try to figure out who you are :)

I'm great actually. :cat: Thanks!

(I just thought of something . . . the link in my sig line would give me away locally).

I tell most of my colleagues about Allnurses but don't share my password..

Nope, don't care to share. I mention internet forums, but nothing more specific.
