Do you disclose AN to coworkers

Published

Do any of you SN folks let your coworkers know that you are on AllNurses ?

If so, do you disclose your username ?

Are you comfortable with this ?

Just curious. I do not want anyone I work with to know or identify me on here.

Thanks !

I've said stuff like "Oh I was reading this thread on All Nurses", "I'm a member of this nursing forum", or "Well, there was some good insight on this nursing thread I read..."

But no one specifically knows that I'm a member of AN and knows my screen name. I only have Boston down because it's such a big city. Before I moved here I didn't even have my location disclosed.

I recommend this site to student nurses as well as any other nurse. There is a lot to be learned here and a place to vent is really necessary in our field. Do I give out my personal information? No. I have enough of that, within reason, on facebook. This site is really serving many needs that a lot of us have at one time or another. And there is a lot of encouragement and help on here. Some situations become very emotional and it is hard not to react emotionally, instead of rationally. That is where sharing experiences and ideas of how to best handle things becomes very important. This site promotes that. I think it is great.

I pointed a nurse coworker to the travel forum because I know she will get some great advice as she looks to start the next phase in her career.

I have also spoken my mind on issues and really didn't care what coworkers thought. I've never chosen a job to create my social circle. And as a female nurse, I can honestly say that I find most male nurses to be honest and say what they think, instead of running around gossiping and back-stabbing. I'm glad to see more men becoming nurses. Helps to increase the professionalism.

No wonder you don't want your coworkers to know who you are.

I used to give out Allnurses pens to co-workers and ancillary staff, but never told them who I was on here. My user name isn't easily guessed so I didn't really worry about it.

Can I get an allnurses pen?

One of my co-workers knows I look at this site but she does not know I post and I have not given out my user name.

What I have posted on here, I usually didn't mind saying in front of any one I work with, anyways but I don't want managers getting involved in my personal business.

I don't hide who I am. People know my twitter name, my blog, and although I don't advertise, my user name here is pretty easy to figure out. I don't post anything that I wouldn't say publicly I the hallway at work. My twitter name is on my business card.

From experience and it's born out again and again nation wide that you are not really anonymous. I see people get found out almost every day.

Oh, good Lord! What is it with all the misogynists on this forum? And the scarey thing is, so many of them are women!

It isn't that I don't respect or like other female nurses. I just don't like the ones who are so into cliques and gossiping about others. Or the ones that consistently complain about patients and make fun of them. I've worked over 35 years and have seen some pretty hostile environments. No reason for that in my opinion.
