I was just wondering what nurse grads(adn rn) wear for the graduation ceramony. Do RN nurse grads wear robes or nursing uniforms or what did you wear for your graduation?

It has been about a hundred years ago but I wore my uniform to pinning, and a cap/gown to graduation.

We voted to wear (white) cap and gown but we had a choice between that or our whites and nurse cap (which we will wear for our pictures).

When you get your degree it's cap & gown with all other grads from college, then about 6 weeks later after practicum is the pinning ceremony, usually they just wear white scrubs & nursing caps, not sure what our class with agree on since agreement from us as a whole would take an act of congress :roll

Nursing schools have their own ceremonial tradition called a "pinning", which you probably have heard about. They vary from school to school, but most of the time you're wearing your nursing uniforms and receive your ADN pins.

Then along with everyone else there is the schools graduation with the cap and gowns.

A good deal of nurses go to only the pinning and skip the cap and gown ceremony. Unlike the person above, they were at the end of the program and within a few days of each other. I did both for my ADN since walking across a stage in a cap and gown and getting my degree was part of my image of achieving my goal. Recently they had the pinning and graduation for my BSN program and I choose to attend neither since it involved traveling.

Good luck.

How funny . . . since I just got into the nursing program I have no idea what our school wears for graduation - but when you say "uniforms", you mean scrubs? That's basically what our uniforms are. Sounds awfully casual for a graduation!

I graduated wearing cap and gown, we didnt have a pinning ceremony. THey handed us our pin when we walked across the stage, along with our diploma.

It's two years off for me, but we've already been told that we have to wear a white uniform dress (well, the ladies anyway :) ) and white caps for the nursing graduation exercise. No exceptions.

I don't know if we also participate with the CC's graduation exercise...if we do, then I imagine we'd be wearing whatever they wear for that (robes?).

In my school the grads wear navy cap and gown to the pinning ceremony. It's kinda a tradition that some students decorate their caps. I've seen one with rhinestones of a big red cross on it...one that said "Got it done" with cool star design all over it. I saw one where they stacked a white nursing cap on top of the graduate cap. It's kinda neat, but I think I'll stick to the original when it's my turn.

We wear our uniform at pinning and cap & gown at graduation.
