Should I tell my employer why I'm really leaving?
It is your obligation to report your employer if you believe they are using dirty instruments. This is seriously frightening!

What is the difference btwn. a bachelors vs. an associates?
I'm sorry but it is simply NOT TRUE that ADN/ASN grads have more clinical time or clinical experience than BSN graduates. The state board of nursing has specific requirements pertaining to the number of clinical hours in order for accreditation. Although it may be hard for some to believe, BSN students aren't magically exempt for clinical hours.

your thoughts on testing
I don't think exams should really be timed at all, within reason. I have never come close to running out of time for any of my exams, but for those who take longer it is just more added pressure to an exam. I remember a statistics instructor that told us if we run out of time, we could head up and finish it in her office or the testing center. I believe that took a lot of pressure of all of the students & everyone finished all of their exams within the class time.

I can totally appreciate what your stance.

Failed Clinical Med Surge 3
People rant about failing all the time and most of the time I understand why the instructor did it. Your situation on the other hand is really not very fair situation. It is pretty serious.... but it was just air! It's pretty likely you will NEVER make another insulin mistake again in your life-- you will probably take extra special care drawing it up and probably check it 10 times! A great lesson was learned by you and your classmates about how careful you must always be! No medication was drawn. No one was harmed.

Is it ever appropriate to tell someone...
No, I have never had a tutor tell me "not to try to be" a Rhodes Scholar or professional athlete, just as I have never told anyone what they should "not try to be". But, as I stated before, I have suggested to a few students that they may want to reconsider whether or not nursing is for them if they can not get past A&P, one of the most basic foundation of the profession.

Is it ever appropriate to tell someone...
If you said that in my program you would be OUT.

Is it ever appropriate to tell someone...
No, advising your patient about health issues is your job! You are the main source of health education and promotion for your patients. It has ZERO to do with your person life or your personal habits. All you are doing is disseminating information. The word hypocrite has a really negative connotation-- it's when a person falsely portrays themselves as virtues, not simply educating patients about facts based on evidence.

I need help with my Nursing Care Plan (LPN)
A little advice. You made your 1st nursing diagnosis is risk of infection r/t chronic skin disease. That is definitely a problem, but not a priority. What is the priority for this patient when you learn about their diagnosis/interventions?? When I read your list of diagnosis, this is what my mind started thinking... - Risk of Injury r/t Dementia and Alzheimer Disease --- is the pt confused? fall risk? Interventions: sitter? move pt closer to nurses station? bed alarm? The patient's immediate safety is top priority, no? - Impaired gas exchange r/t aveolar collapse/ consolidation - pneumonia is VERY serious! interventions: incentive spirometry, turn cough deepbreath, have pt ambulate/ change positions often to decrease consolidation, monitor sp02 & cap refill. Those should be the first 2 things that jump out at you then PAIN then risk of infection d/t chronic disease

Drunk paitents
It doesn't make a difference in any state you are in, you can only restrain a patient if it is believed that they are an immediate threat to themselves or someone else. So if the drunk guy says he doesn't want a specific treatment & wants to leave you let him go and he is signed out AMA. I did have a wasted pt in the ED who wanted out, but he wasn't going anywhere-- he was cuffed to the bed and accompanied by 2 officers in the Trauma bay. Once he sobered up enough to figure out that he was going to jail, he kept trying to throw himself on the floor to keep him in the hospital.

Freshmen year gone bad
You got a C+ average your first semester-- so it's not the end of the world as long as you didn't get any D's or failures. Careful with your prerequisite classes. To get into a BSN program they must be very good. I took all my classes at a community college before applying to my BSN program because the courses are much cheaper. I think it shouldn't make a difference. Most of the community colleges have a "Learning Center" or something along those lines, where you can get tutoring and other services. The centers here offer workshops or other resources on study strategies.

If you have rec' d the H1N1 vaccine - please report
I received the IM injection. No pain at the site at all, in fact i thought that maybe they didn't get it into the muscle--but other students told me that they didn't experience any pain either. Like 0 pain in the days following. I worked with the county health department screening for the H1N1 vaccine. The standing orders stated was that children under 9 receiving the nasal spray were to return in 21 days for a second dose so we were getting many kids for their second inoculation. Of the kids returning, none of the parents stated any kind of problems with the first dose while i was working.

Is it ever appropriate to tell someone...
um, this rant is ridicules. so a nurse that is over weight should just omit patient education on diet because otherwise she would be a hypocrite ?? god, hope the patient ins't diabetic.
