Did your Docs get you a Christmas gift or recognize your work?

Published

Hello all- Just curious...what did your docs do for your floor on the holidays? Did you do anything for your Docs on the holidays? (other than work your rear ends off :))

Do you feel like your Docs should recognize your work on the holidays? Or some other day?

Our Docs gave us Christmas cards (some did anyhow) Generic that said "Happy Holidays," to the floor.

Last year some got us fruit baskets, some cookies or some homemade fudge. I think we got a fruit basket or two this year.

We work so hard for them and if it werent for us they would only know what is going on with the patient for the 5 minutes they are with them in a day. I think that it would be nice to be recognized in some way at least once a year, but then again I dont do anything for them (other than give the best care to their patients that I can).

How do you feel?

We usually get cookies, cakes, etc. This year our main Dr. got us a party tray from a local sandwich shop. And he happens to say 'thank you' often, which isnice to hear!

A lot of our doctors send fruit baskets or popcorn, etc., but not all. All of them however take the time to say Merry Christmas. One MD is the only Jewish member of his practice and he always works on Christmas Day so we include him in our holiday lunch.

Specializes in Critical Care.

I'm just happy when doctors recognize I exist. And I'm thrilled when they actually treat me for the intelligent healthcare provider that I am.

Most of the docs at my hospital are good, and pay attention to nursing staff. It seems like its always the cardiologist that try to pretend you don't exist... One made me so mad this week, I almost asked him to consult the hospitalist just so I can take care of the rest of my patient's needs, not just their heart, lol.

Well, if private practice you do work for them. I have owned my own buisness in the past so it bothers me not.

But anyhoo, I always baked A LOT throughout the holidays for the office. Also got good at some sort of thoughtful gag gift for the Doc (examples of which I won't mention here, even tho I'd love you all to know my creative awesomeness at gag gift giving - which should put all MDs who get to know me on alert. I will find a way to hilite every story of childhood fear or adult weakness that you might have told me... :D)

Specializes in ER.

My floor's two favorite doctors gave us some chocolates and cookies. The rest barely gave us a smile.

Did I mention the one doctor gave us night shift the cookies? Usually it's day shift who gets all the goodies, so we gobbled them up pretty quickly, haha

I guess then we will need to look for gifts for our CNA's then.

I do not want or expect gifts from doctors.

Specializes in Oncology; medical specialty website.

You should have told him he needed to consult a neurologist to see if he had a brain. ;)

Specializes in PeriOp, ICU, PICU, NICU.

Yes, our head neonatologist had a huge and fancy party for the staff including a nice raffle that included ipads, etc.

VERY, nice of him.

I didn't go because I had to work.

Specializes in General adult inpatient psychiatry.

Our medical attending let us each order lunch from a local restaurant, on her. One of our psychiatrists brought chocolate covered pretzels, which day shift gobbled up. A psychiatrist we consult with sometimes brought butter cookies, one box for each shift. I was just glad that they all seemed to be in good spirits. I made sure to be nice to our one psychiatrist who covered for Christmas Day, even though she's Jewish and I probably had other places to be than our unit all day.

Specializes in NICU, M/B, PEDS.

I work in a smallish NICU. We have a doctor on staff 24 hours a day. The MD on staff on Christmas bought the day shift lunch. The night shift, as always, got diddly.

If anything came to the floor (snacks, treats, etc.) the day shift took all of it and left crumbs for the night shift. Literally, crumbs.

Um hello? We work here, too. I guess it is just me, but if I were the ANM on duty I would put some aside and say, "this is for the night shift." But that's just me.

I work in the ER. Our ER Doc that is over the ER bought us goody bag and a pretty cool notepad. (better than nothing...it's the though that counts) Anyways, we're from the south so anytime there is a football game (particually auburn or alabama) our docs bring in cakes or purchase catered meals for day AND night shift at seperate times to be fair. Also, we have a doc that LOVES to bake and he brings all kinds of good stuff on holidays and game days!
