Coworkers Opening Patient Windows During Inclement Weather

Published

What would you do if you had a colleague that opened patients’ room windows during inclement weather? For example , the other day it was quite cold, cloudy and rainy and someone had opened up all the windows on one unit.  A similar happening occurred during Winter when it was very snowy out.  In both instances, some of the rooms got very cold, almost to the point of being freezing.  What would you do about a colleague who does things such as this?  In our case, we don’t know who is responsible (yet) but wondering about the best approach should their identity become known

Id close the window. I have a hard time believing you don't know who it is, just talk to them. If you really don't, talk about it at shift change so everybody is on the same page. Fresh air is awesome, however maybe not when it's 32 outside.

So you're glad I'm back even though I'm boring and predictable?  Did you predict when I'd come back?

ACT-SHOO-ALL-LEE, TriciaJ, you're more predictable and comforting.

Our styles of replying to posts are similar, in that we are consistently respectful, use "verbal" listening techniques, and are generally supportive.  We tend to treat others as we ourselves want to be treated, approaching threads with a certain gracefulness, most likely due to our age and life histories.

The mainstream posters tend to smugly and arrogantly barge into a thread and bluntly state their opinions. They will ask rhetorically loaded questions meant to challenge, so they can belittle their perceived opponent in an endeavor to be part of a powerful pecking party, thereby elevating their low self esteem.

I did not predict your return, merely longed for it, and breathe a sigh of relief!

Very wise.

However, in regards to keeping the windows closed in the first place, the plan should be...

While I agree that we don't want to freeze the residents. I believe but I could be wrong (It's happened) that there are no peer reviewed, evidence based studies to show that being cold is bad for you. It fact the opposite is true and being too warm contributes the illness. Soooooooooo

If the resident is verbal I would ask them if they want the windows open, If not verbal and they appear cold close tghe window and give them an extra blanket!

Hppy

It makes one wonder if some members have anything better to do than read, respond to, and berate SilverBells' threads and posts.

Yet they keep coming back, like moths to a flame.

Florence Nightingale was a huge proponent of fresh air and ventilation.  So is Dr. Fauci, and SO AM I.  Open the damn windows.  If it snows or there's lightning, close them.

Let me add:  If it's that cold, then limit the amount of time the windows are open, half an hour, an hour, maybe only 15 minutes.

Good plan!

I think that the game is afoot!

It was the night before Christmas and the utility companies cooked up this plan to increase energy usage and consulted with the dairy industry and chocolate makers in a devious plot with the procurement MANAGER, who unbeknownst to SilverBells was related to the little old white haired lady who everyone thought was so quiet and sweet, but she was actually masquerading because in reality she was an international mastermind who had bought up large quantities of stocks in the energy companies, and her plot was working like the clappers until, SilverBells CLOSED ALL THE WINDOWS!

I wish our windows would open! Sometimes you need that blast of fresh air to energize people.

And to get rid of foul odors.
