What would you do if you had a colleague that opened patients’ room windows during inclement weather? For example , the other day it was quite cold, cloudy and rainy and someone had opened up all the windows on one unit. A similar happening occurred during Winter when it was very snowy out. In both instances, some of the rooms got very cold, almost to the point of being freezing. What would you do about a colleague who does things such as this? In our case, we don’t know who is responsible (yet) but wondering about the best approach should their identity become known

The best approach is to close the windows.

I would advise you, SilverBells, to loudly ask the culprit the rhetorical question, "Were you raised in a barn?", passively-aggressively labelling them as an imprudent, simple-minded person.
This passive-aggressive ploy may cause the individual to do some self-examination, resulting in a revelation and higher consciousness.
However, if the offender has a quick wit and responds to the question with, "Yes, I was raised in a barn and everytime I hear an *** bray, I get homesick!", you'll need to use Plan B.
Hmmm...
***: "an animal of the horse family, which is typically smaller than a horse and has longer ears and a braying call".

Very wise.
However, in regards to keeping the windows closed in the first place, the plan should be...

Right. You would think everyone would have better things to do than checkup on coworkers who open windows when it is not appropriate to do so. Then again, you have to do so because the rooms become freezing when the windows are opened when it is 30 degrees or less outside, making the residents very cold.

I’m Scandinavian and we have inclement weather for the better part of the year. It’s no reason to not let in some fresh air.

That must be quite the window ninja you have there... ? Have you tried asking your patients/residents who opened the windows? Are you telling me that the stealthy window-opening mastermind managed to open all windows ?❄️?? without a single patient noticing and not a single one pressing their call bell or whatever until the window fiend had done the deed and vacated the premises?

Talk to them?

I was, of course, referring to the choice of recreational activities, to wit., posting this sort of inanity. YMMV.

Perhaps you should move on. I have never worked in any facility where the windows opened.
Too many patients and nurses who would jump.

Are you saying that posting unusual threads or comments on Allnurses.com isn't your first choice of activity during your downtime? ?
If not, this is truly mind boggling. Forget any cleaning around the house to do, errands to run, other hobbies to participate in or friends and families to see. Surely, posting odd threads on Allnurses.com would take priority over any of that. ??
