Hello, I'm a CNA in Long Island NY & I'm considering moving to Florida & wanted to know how much CNA's make in Florida. I currently work at a Nursing Home working 11pm-7am & make $19.75 an hour.

Are you serious I never knew a CNA could make almost $20 an hour anywhere. I don't live in Florida so I can't be sure but I'd have to say there might be a chance you will not even come close to that kind of pay.

Even LPNs in nursing home usually average 18-25 an hour I thought.

Specializes in retired LTC.

New York has a high cost of living and I'd guess, that OP was a union member of a strong union. And 11-7 prob paid a differential.

I'd doubt that Florida will pay as well - even for Miami area.

Specializes in Pedi.

I doubt you'll see anywhere close to that in Florida. You'd probably be lucky to see half of that...

I worked as a PCT at a hospital in lower AL and I made $13(ish) after shift diff.

Specializes in public health, women's health, reproductive health.

19.75 an hour for a CNA? In Florida? Highly unlikely, because believe it or not, there are certain parts of Florida where they start new grad RNs at around that hourly rate. Depends on what part of Florida you are in as to how much less you will make an hour than you do now. But it will be less. Cost of living differences should be noted. But still...your paycheck is gonna look much, much different.

I live in Florida and make $10 even at a retirement community part-time. Before this job I was offered $10.20 for a full-time position at a rehab center. Hospitals in my area start at $10.83.

Specializes in Case mgmt., rehab, (CRRN), LTC & psych.

In most parts of Florida you will be earning in the $9 to $12 hourly range as a CNA. You definitely will not be earning anywhere near $19.75 per hour in Florida.

The question you should really be asking is about the cost of living in a certain area of FL. and then the average salary of a CNA.

$19. per hr sounds like a huge amount for a CNA, but I also know on Long Island the cost of living is high(I lived there for years).

You can't compare dollar for dollar from state to state.

Search online the cost of an apartment in a specific area you're thinking about moving to. Check as if you're apartment hunting. Then go to indeed.com and search CNA positions in that same area. If a 1 bedroom apt. costs $750 a month and CNAs make generally $10. an hr. You may just barely squeak out a living....which, I can bet is about what you are doing now if you are single.

Don't forget about the demand for CNA's in the area of FL where you plan to move. The salary won't matter if you can't find a job.

In Fargo,ND ( Non -oil boom town) CNAs make 13 -17 an hour

I live in Georgia, moved from California just few years ago. In south such as Georgia or Florida your wages will most likely be 10.00 an hour give or take a dollar or two. But don't expect more then that because the cost of living is not as high here resulting in lower wages. New York or Cali pay much more but those states cost allot to live in, housing prices much higher.
