Quit being a CNA
I just wanted to share what I've been going through lately. I quit being a CNA at the retirement community I was working at. Now I am working as a receptionist at a chiropractor and I like it so much more. I am worried now though and getting second thoughts about nursing school. I am almost done with my AA, so I have to figure out what I'm going to do soon. I'm afraid I won't like nursing. I honestly am not sure what I didn't like that much about being a CNA, so I can't really say unfortunately. I've been thinking about shadowing a doctor and nurse at a hospital in my town to see if that will help me make up my mind. Fingers crossed it does! I don't know why I'm posting on here honestly, I guess to just kind of express my worries. Not really looking for anything, but I feel better writing it all out.

Waiting in the ER & Heard This
The sad thing is that since a lot of people are saying these things to get in faster now, it is affecting people who really are in pain and do need help. Last year I was having really bad chest pains and for six months no one really took me seriously and was completely misdiagnosed a few times. It got to the point that I pretty much just gave up cause no one took me seriously. When I passed out five times in one night and the EMTs convinced me to actually go to the hospital and the doctors saw I had spikes in my heart rate up to 160bpm while just laying in bed, needless to say they finally got concerned then. I just feel bad for the other people who are actually are in pain but don't get taken seriously because of all the people that lie about it now.

Sick and I start work tomorrow
Yeah, you're right. Maybe it would of been better to call in. Luckily I didn't come into contact with any of the residents. Since it was so early in the morning there was no residents walking around yet, and barely any workers there. I'll keep in mind to just call out in the future instead of going in. Thanks for the advice!

CNA Salaries
I live in Florida and make $10 even at a retirement community part-time. Before this job I was offered $10.20 for a full-time position at a rehab center. Hospitals in my area start at $10.83.

Sick and I start work tomorrow
Thank you both for the well wishes! I went in and just told the person I'm training under about what was going on. She called a nurse in who sent me home right away. I went in to show that I was willing to work even though I'm sick. I just hope this doesn't look bad on me and doesn't affect me. My trainer might be happy though! She's been training so many people lately and now she has a day where she can have a break from training, hahaha.

Sick and I start work tomorrow
Today has been absolutely horrible. I have been vomiting so much my stomach is sore, had diarrhea, cold sweats, lightheaded, and my energy is drained. It took all my might to just take a shower. On top of that I ended up puking right after I stepped out, I couldn't even put on clothes yet. So I ended feeling dirty all over again. To top it off, tomorrow is my first day as a CNA. I have to be at work by 5:45 in the morning. I'm hoping I will feel at least a little better when I wake up. I feel horrible that I'm going in on my first day being so ill and not at my 100%. Wish me luck so that I can make it through tomorrow! Sorry, I just had to rant somewhere. Hope that's okay!

Is becoming a CNA (and getting hired) hard?
I just became a CNA myself. I did a four day CNA prep course, challenged the exam, and passed. I got offered two positions about a week later. Both positions stated they wanted at least one year experience, but I have none. It seems like everyone I took the class with got offered jobs too, whether it was HHA or LTC.

Average number of patients
Hello everyone, I just got hired as a CNA in a retirement community and went in today to sign all the paperwork. While signing the paperwork me and the worker were talking and she said that per shift you get 25 patients in your wing. You have two CNAs working, but one is just giving out meds and the other one is answering call lights and things like that. Just wondering is that more patients than a CNA normally has in this environment or about average? Other than that I'm really looking forward to this job and I start med training on the 27th which I'm excited for. I think this will be a good foot into the health field before I apply to nursing programs next spring.
