Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

Tell this parent that of course ABX aren't completely necessary to treat OM. But they will be necessary when the infection moves to his mastoid and then to the meninges. Of course, at that point, intubation, a triple lumen, and the ICU will be necessary as well.

(personal experience - my son had an ear infection that went undetected/untreated until this point)

Fun story--nothing near as intense as yours--on our way home from our honeymoon my husband was telling me his ears hurt. I thought he was just being whiny and told him he'd be fine & could go to urgent care the next day if his ears still hurt. His ear drum ruptured in the middle of the night. Lots of bleeding. Great first week of being married. Thankfully it healed well so he doesn't hold a grudge.

I literally told her the horror story (not quite THAT horrible, but close) of the un-treated OM I saw in my acute care days the first time around... sigh... as that other thread states, you can't fix stupid.

Right?! When I told her no she said "ok, I'll give her a call then". I gave her a thumbs up and said "you do you!" That is a conversation that I do NOT want to be involved in!

Yes!! I had a teacher get a bit miffed with me and not understand why I wasn't making courtesy calls for every blessed visitor. I reviewed simple math with her. At that point in the day I had already seen 25 kids. Average time spent on each call 3-5 minutes. at best that's an hour and fifteen minutes spent making calls; at 5 minutes per, it's over 2 hours on just those 25 visits alone!

Ugh. Yesterday I had a teacher call at 2:20 (we dismiss at 2:22) and ask if I ever talked with a mom about a students sore throat.

A. Yes, the assistant was supposed to tell you that I had and mom just had her at the doc and it wasn't strep.

B. It's freaking TWO MINUTES until dismissal, what on earth would you possibly want me to do at this point.

This is the same teacher that came in while I was eating and celebrating the secretaries birthday and said she had already checked the kids temp, no fever, but wanted me to look at her throat. I said "Nope, I'm eating!" Then laughed a little because I was only halfway joking.

Yesterday was poop and pee in your pants day.

No extra clothing in backpacks. I have nothing that fits anyone (but I do have undies...not that it completely helps).

And the one kid who did have a change of clothing in the backpack...the teacher required him to walk the walk of shame with plainly-peed-on pants from the K wing to my clinic. Which then resulted in me sending an email to all the teachers requesting them to consider if it is best practice to do this.

COME ON!

SPED teacher always wanting me to call to see if the kid had his ADHD at home that morning. Now, he always calls first and mom never picks up anymore. If she didn't pick up for you then she probably won't pick up for me either. We have already recommended she leave a few extra with me but has not done it yet.

My first visit today (fresh off the bus in her coat and backpack) "my socks are itchy. Can you give me different ones?")

C'mon now... I hate being made to start off my day with a mean "NO!" it makes me feel bad but giving out better socks is not going to be a thing!

And now I'm being asked to put contacts back in a 1st grader's eye. "My mom said you would" Well. That was quite an assumption for her to make with not even a note.

1st thing this morning, teacher sends a student to me . He says "my teacher sent me because yesterday my stomach was sick and it might happen today". Seriously? Anything "might" happen kiddo!

C'mon now.

Wait... contacts in a 1st grader? Why? I thought contacts were only for older children.

What first grader wears contacts??

My older daughter got them at 12 and that was after doctor shopping for someone who would prescribe them for someone under 13.
