Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.

C'mon now!

Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.

C'mon now!

The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.

All together: C'mon now!!

Some things just make me shake my head.

I suppose they didn't want them to feel left out?? I don't know. We're a really small school. I'm sure there would have been some upset parents if they found out the rest of the school was doing a party but the 6th-7th graders weren't. I don't really know. I just work here ;)

Walked in to school to be notified by secretary of over 10% of students absent. Checked for trends, mostly influenza A. Sent email to superintendent and health department informing of high absence due to influenza. I sent so many more kids home that morning that 1st and 2nd grade had over half their students home sick. Most of them shouldn't have even come to school that day because they already didn't feel well or mom gave Tylenol (for fever) and told them to tough it out. Called superintendent to notify of high rate of illness, parent noncompliance with fever policy, and that health department recommends closing due to illness.

Superintendent replies that we're not closing. We can't inconvenience the "healthy" 80% of students.

Hmm, I think we are inconveniencing the "healthy" 80% by not closing.

Also, custodian told me he's going to start disinfecting door handles "every couple days".

WHAT?! You don't already disinfect them daily or multiple times daily?

Can flu season be over yet???

Oyyy.....the VD party tomorrow - sent home 6 kids with fevers today, I have already had 3 calls and 1 email from parents that picked students up verifying that the student could not be here tomorrow - all want their feverish kid to come in for just the party. ummm....Nope!

on the plus side, "party days" seem to cure malingering. The results are remarkable.

oh, i just royally ticked off a second grader who came in sick and didn't think i'd really send her home. Fastest recovery ever. Too bad she actually had a fever and the tylenol mom gave her hadn't kicked in yet.

Our Middle Schoolers don't get a party - but for $1 they can get a list of students a computer has "matched" them with ?.

I asked my 7th grader if he was going to get his matches. He disgustingly informed me "No!". Good boy!

I am a school nurse and today I brought back a shoelace back from the dead!!

It was touch and go there for a moment. 6th grader's shoelace broke in class - teacher told him to have nurse reattach appendage. However, broken part of shoelace thrown into trash in classroom instead of being placed in a plastic bag and put on ice (funeral announcements for the amputated string will be announced at a later date).

Somehow, through very tense medical skill, laces still long enough to tie together in a knot.

Phew, I really did need to decompress over this near tragedy!! Thanks for listening colleagues!
