Had a kid bring his wet, bloody tooth and plop it right on my desk.
C'mon now!
Or the kid that did running knee slide into my office.
C'mon now!
The ones old enough to cover their mouths but choose to cough right in your face instead.
All together: C'mon now!!
Some things just make me shake my head.
Got another great one today, less than 10 minutes into the school day -
Gym teacher: Johnny's growing his hair out for locks for love and its in his face. Its a safety hazard. I'm going to send him to you so you can put it up in a ponytail. You're the nurse, so you can touch him, I can't. Plus, you must have hair ties.
I told her we don't have hair ties, he will get a rubber band and he will be taught to put his hair up himself. He is 10 years old.
C'mon, now!!!
5th grade FF comes into my office. "I can't feel my right arm" *moving right arm normally*
Me: "so, how long has your arm been numb?"
Student: It's not numb, I just can't feel anything."
Me: thinking to myself- riiiight, what's the difference? "OK, So how long have you not been able to feel your arm?"
Student: "3 days"
I don't even know what to say to this girl, except go back to class!
5th grade boy: My heel has been hurting for about 2 months now
Me: I think, at this point, it's a parent problem. Have you told your parents about it?
5th: Yes, I'm leaving in like 10 minutes for a doctor's appt to get it checked
Me; Then why are you here? it's been months, you're headed to the doctor, I don't think there is anything I can do for you.
C'Mon Now
Little comes in while I have two other girls ahead of her. She waits for around 10minutes (mind you, I haven't heard a peep from her during this wait). I finally get to her and she immediately tries to get me to play a name game with her - lots of smiles and giggles. I then ask her what is wrong and she suddenly frowns and says she isn't feeling well and starts coughing up a storm. I ask her for how long she hasn't felt well and she replies "Since right now!" so I pry a bit more and she says "When I came to the nurse's office!". So I clarify, and sure enough, she came to see me even though she felt fine and now all of a sudden, she has all of the symptoms of the two girls in before her. C'Mon now!!!
(To be fair to the teacher, she has had 3 or 4 kids sent home or out of school with completely inexplicable fevers, so she is taking all of the kids complaints maybe a little too seriously).
One of our Kinder teachers was having a normal day yesterday. The class was having free time and she noticed one of her students playing with something with a shape that caught her attention. As she went closer to check it out the student pushed a button on the end of it and it started buzzing. Such items are commonly sold for "Neck Massage."
It went immediately into the backpack for him to take back home:whistling:
Wonder if Mom is home tearing the house apart wondering where she left it??

So, what is the protocol here? Put said item in backpack and hope the parents find it? Send home a note that says "Your little one brought a toy to school today, you can find it in the backpack. Please lock your toy box in the future"?
Also, who put this item back in the backpack? Did they wear gloves? What about everything else this item touched in the backpack?
So many questions. So many uncomfortable questions.

If your school counselor isn't already involved with this student, they should be.
