Being called "Nurse".

I'm curious as to how people here feel about being called "Nurse" rather than by their name. For me, I'm not bothered when a patient calls me "Nurse" but when a doctor calls me "Nurse" I feel slightly annoyed. Anyone else?

Do I mind? No...it beats "hey you" :)

Doesn't really matter to me, I mean after all I am a nurse:nurse: , on the flip side when I'm in a uniform and people on the street say ''oh nurse'', thats annoying.!

I don't mind being called "Nurse" by a patient- I'm proud of that title! :nurse:Never had a doc call me "nurse" yet, but if the time comes, I don't think it would bother me...

Calling someone "Nurse ____" isn't commonly done, nurse just doesn't seem to be useful as a title like Mr. or Mrs. is, so if anyone did call me that I'd wonder what was going on.

When I was a new nurse I would never have dreamed of calling a doctor by the first name. Now that most of them are a lot younger than I am, first name basis seems natural. I swap back and forth from first name to titled name for no particular reason, just habit. Yelling "Dr. So&so" in a noisy ER seems to get their attention better. :monkeydance:

Don't really mind hearing "Nurse!" from the other side of a curtain, most ER patients aren't there long enough to learn all of our names (we hope:uhoh21: ). But nuuuuurrrrrrsssssiiiiiiiiiiiiieeeeeeeee? You better be dieing bud, cause I'm gonna jump on you something fierce.:lol2: :lol2: Clear!?

In my 20's and 30's I thought first name with a doc was sooooooo kewlllll.

Now I'm in my 60s and baby docs in their 20s young enough to be grandkids almost. grrrrrrr. Callin' me "lulabelle, this is DOCTOR Babydoc, get me a kleenex" grrrrrrrr.

I wanna go back to the Matron and Sister (Master and Brother for the gentlemen.) and I'm in the southern USA so add a ma'am to that ya'heah?

I dont care I answered to another name for six months because i only worked with the person for about 30 minutes a week. the person was a little miffed but still kept using the wrong name. I thought it was funny. Nope, I am not bothered in the least.

So true! :)

I've been called nurse, doc, doctor, by my first name, by my last name.

It's all good as long as it's said with basic human respect.

And yes, I do correct them that I'm not a doctor.

At my LTC facility all of the staff wears scrubs. I am so sick of being asked if I am a housekeeper or a "waitress" that I am ready to break out the old cap and white stockings!!!:uhoh3:
