Being called "Nurse".

I'm curious as to how people here feel about being called "Nurse" rather than by their name. For me, I'm not bothered when a patient calls me "Nurse" but when a doctor calls me "Nurse" I feel slightly annoyed. Anyone else?

I think people you work with should call you by your name

Older docs might be used to years ago, when it was the accepted way to speak to a nurse. Or is it a new doc who doesn't know your name? Either way, you can tell him/her, "Thank you for using my title, Doctor, but I would actually prefer you call me by my first name."

Don't really care one way or another, but I have noticed older nurses and docs use this more. One of our nurses answers the phone by saying "Nurse last name, can I help you?"

Being called 'Nurse' is marginally better than being called 'Sister'. I feel like saying 'Do I look like a nun?'

I'm a first semester nursing student so I really don't have an opinion on this just yet. However, I used to work for a family practice where the dr's had ma's. pt's would call them "the nurses" and it drove me INSANE! Is this "normal"? I don't want to become one of those "snotty" rn's, ya know?

Nonononononono, don't start this discussion again!!! Do a search, there is a very heated thread on this. In fact, you'll probably find it if you go back just 2-4 pages of topics.

We also have threads somewhere about nurses being called by their first name while docs are addressed by their title. So there is no perfect answer.

My pet peeve is a doc that "will send my nurse in" as if I'm combination possession and personal slave.
