  1. Hi guys! I have wondered for some time why my epidural stopped working in the middle of my labor? I got it @ 4cm and it held me for 4 hours, then all of the sudden stopped! When they checked me after I called hollering for more meds I was 8cm and they told me I had all that I could have. So I was wondering, what was that all about? What med is it in the epidural? Lidocaine? Is it a freak ting that happens or did I get the epidural too soon (ha! not soon enough!!) Help me out here....
  2. At my LTC facility all of the staff wears scrubs. I am so sick of being asked if I am a housekeeper or a "waitress" that I am ready to break out the old cap and white stockings!!!
  3. i applied for a job and had my 1st interview went great, then on the 2nd i started to feel like i was hiding something by not telling them i was prego- i saw her write "5 months preg." on her notepad and underline it twice... later in the interview she told me that the facility had decided not to hire me because she didn't want me to start something i could'nt finish. verbatum. it was clearly discrimination and i may have been able to fight it but it was my word against hers and i didn't think it would be worth the fight to work in such a place. this was nearly 2 years ago but i am still ticked....
  4. in northern indiana in LTC you can expect between 13 and 15 per hour for lpn, and 16 to 18 for rn.
  5. do any of you remember having growing pains when you were having growth spurts? i shot up a few inches over a summer when i was 11 and i distinctly remember laying awake at night with the worst pain in my femurs, an aching, gnawing pain that had me in tears. so when a baby grows an inch over a few weeks, do you suppose it hurts and that is why he gets really fussy for hours on end (this is usually once a week) when he is usually a quiet baby? all of his other needs have been met, he's dry and fed and burped and has pooped but screams bloody murder...
  6. if the end justifies the means...... also, just a reminder- i don't know what setting you work in but do not handle crushed tablets of proscar....i did several times a day for critical months of my pregnancy with a male child (proscar only causes defects in male fetuses) and it only dawned on me in my 9th month what i had been doing. the kid is fine, but you never know. your kid will probably be healthy and your problems still controlled but that is still a scarey decision to make and with all the reassurance in the world you won't feel ok about it until you see he is fine....

i loooove the depo shot! there is too much room for human error on the pill...my human error is named collin. i didn't even know i wanted him until i held him for the first time, but we do not want another little miracle for a few years. does anyone do norplant anymore?!?! i cant find anyone in my area who does it.....
  8. when i was first pregnant (i just KNEW...i know my body very well) i called my doc to see if the blood test would confirm it at only 4 days of gestation. i knew that early. the doc said there was no way i was preggo because i had started my period on the 4th and i was calling him on the 12th. he told me to keep taking by birth control, which i did until the 28th when i took a test from the CVS which confirmed it... so i go to my doc to get the prenatal care going and the urine test came back negative. so he comes in to the room and i am swearing up and down to him that i am pregnant. he puts his hand on my knee and gently says "are you sure that you just don't WANT to be pregnant?" like i was some psych patient!!!! i said, "NO! i am not ready to be pregnant yet, but i AM!" the blood test came back positive. i think doctors need to be more sensitive to the fact that the patient knows their body and not to brush off what we say. especially when their pt. is a nurse who DOES have SOME medical background! HHMPH!
  9. my littman cardiology came with a interchangable pediatric head...just screw the adult one off, screw the pediatric one on (and it is soooo cute). i really don't think it works any better than the adult size, i have tried both on my 7 week old.
  10. my bill states as follows: 1-2-04 pharmacy $493 1-2-04 pharmacy iv $19 1-2-04 supplies $993 12-31-03 delivery room $2185 1-2-04 room and board $5835 1-2-04 nursery $1325 1-2-04 laboratory $112 the gal at the billing counter is clueless...would they have to go over my records again?
  11. i just had a baby new years eve. he roomed with me the whole stay. he went to the nursery to be circumcised and stayed there for 30 minutes for observation. other than that he never left my room! i was charged by the doc for the surgery, by the hospital for supplies, but could there be a mistake in the charges for the nursery?
  12. who's decision is it, legally, if daughter wants to keep the baby and mother thinks abortion/adoption is best? ....some young girls actually think it's cool to be pregnant. oral sex is no more personal than a kiss. now, i graduated from high school in 2000, and i do not remember any of this $hit going on in middle school...

at the facility where i work, anything over 8 hrs a day is overtime. so what i do is take my time and do all my treatments and meds which I can make fit into 8 hours (with my 15 min break and lunch). i save all paperwork for after my shift- which adds up to about 45 minutes of overtime every day. 1. i get my WELL deserved breaks 2. i spend more 1:1 time with my patients 3. i do a more complete job charting 4. i cut my stress in half by not rushing to fit everything into 8 hours. 5. i make more money i do not sit around- i am on my feet all day. this also gives me time to help the cna's.
  14. elkpark- so the $6,000 it would take me to go for my RN would be deductable? is that only up to a certain amount?
  15. i put a band aid on a lady's fingernail because it was snagging her sweater. i didn't have clippers on my med cart but i was going to clip the nail during treatments. unit manager was lurking in some shadow and saw me do it. forgot to get the doctor order for the band aid. :rotfl:
