Be Aware: Don't Go into Nursing

Published

The economy will probably pick up but not enough to absorb the new grads. You think there will be more and more new grads each year? Yes. More than jobs available? yes. 3 times that amount in 5 years. You think old new grads will ahve a shot at these jobs in 5 years? Probably not. Just look at the statistics of how many nursing grads there are each year across the country getting licensed in each state. Its quadrupled since 5 years ago. There is no nursing shortage.

Does anyone else find this odd?

I was thinking the same thing

Yes, me too. They prob have a communal Facebook account as well. Some profile pic that must be :D

OP you mention that you're in California. Things are rough across the country, but the way the media paints the picture..things are REALLY rough in California. If your roommates are really serious about finding a job, they might have to look into moving if that is feasible for them.

Why would she want to join a nursing forum when she's an occupational therapist? :uhoh3::confused: I never log out of my account...and told her about all the people going into nursing.

I am so glad you posted. I was totally going to continue my education but now know better thanks to you.

This really applies to any field, the economy is rough for everyone. It also varies by area as well. My area is a "high need" location forgiving student loans for nursing students, hiring new grads and giving new grads huge sign on bonuses, but obviously this isnt the same everywhere. My husband has his MBA and struggled to find a job out of grad school, then was laid off and spent over 6 months trying to find the job he has now. It is rough for any major, and for everyone - new grad or not.

Curious about where this magical place you described (ie. sign on bonuses, etc.) is located, I looked at your profile and found that you're from PA... But I'm confused, because the PA regional discussion board here definitely doesn't not reflect what you said...

Maybe b/c Pennsylvania is an extremely large state. It doesn't mean she's making it up. If you wanted to know what part of the state she is from where there are sign-on bonuses, loan forgiveness, etc maybe you should PM her instead of assuming she's making it up.

I didn't say she was making it up. I said I was curious about the discrepency and asked for clarification.
