Are you allowed to wear Makeup ?

I personally cannot live without makeup.I feel plain and unkept without makeup. It's apart of me.It makes me feel feminine. Will I be able to continue wearing makeup up on the job?

Whoa...thank goodness. Before I saw the answers to this post I was afraid I was going to have to give up my dream of becoming a nurse. :chuckle

uh...YES!! Without it, most patients would think they had seen a ghost--or worse, died and gone to hell! :lol2:

ebear

School: whatever we want.

Clinical: As long as it's understated (i.e., no Tammy Faye eyes), they allow it. Besides, mascara and eyeliner don't hold up well during shift anyway :)

Then you're using the wrong brand ;)..mine holds up from 4am-11pm when I go to bed.

We had the same "rule" about makeup being ok but not overly done. It was disputed by several students..who is it that decides that "overly done" is..to someone who wears no makeup..a person with just a touch of blush and some lip gloss could be "over done"

I just think the "rule" was outted because they looked around and noticed that 1/2 of the clinical teachers made Tammy Faye look like she had NO makeup on :lol2: when it was pointed out to the director..

I once worked at a LTC facility in which the DON required all female staff to wear make up.

Yes, makeup please! It boosts my morale. Long wearing lipstick gets me through a 12 hour shift.

this should be personnal choice..maybe the don thinks that people look better with than without but some people are allergic to even so call hypoallergic makeup

others have religious beliefs against wearing make up

i know people who wouldn't go out to get the paper without putting on 'their face' and i know know others who put it on with a trowel

my own personal preference is somewhere in the middle

Some of our staff have the full face applied, but its kinda hard to keep the "panda eyes" and streaky face away, when you are working in an incubator on a tiny preemie, with HUMIDITY all around!!:lol2::lol2: OMG, on these kinda days, i leave work with curls like Shirley Temple, (after painstakingly straightning my hair before work!). But I leave off the make up for work, as in the NICU, you never know when you will be in that humid environment, or with a theatre mask across your face. Sweat and make up are not a good mix! So, each day, i have vaseline to put on my lips, and just me, au natural! Bare faced cheek eh??:lol2:

Anyway, if you have to wear make up every day, it gives you spots...found this out years ago, when I worked in retail, with a full face on...(why DID I do that to my young skin??..now I'm mega years older, I realise, should have let that skin breathe and be glowing!..way back then, I really had no need for that face mask!)

Now, heck yeah, probably could do with it, but as I said, no way babe, in a hot, sweaty, humid NICU, will I clog up my pores even further!

:angryfire Thats bad!!!

And actually...I thought Tammy Faye died just recently...this summer no?)

Yes she did but the legacy seems to live on. I keep seeing the revival of the '80s blue eyeliner, blue eyeshadow, and obviously fake eyelashes. Frankly I'd rather look at someone made up to look like the singers of KISS than I would someone emulating Tammy Faye. If you look like KISS, you know what you look like, but the people looking like Tammy Faye actually think it looks fabulous.

Although I would have to say that people wearing nose and tongue jewelry tend to irritate me in report more than people with horrible makeup. I can't stop staring at their tongues or noses and wondering about boogers and spit.

Yeah breast cancer poor thing.

When I don't wear make-up, someone will inevitably come up to me and say "Oh, geez - you look so tired!" - guess they're just too used to it.

As for stuff that wears long - I am a huge fan of liquid eyeliner. It's hard to do it right because small mistakes show-up very easily, and going over a line more than twice gets you headed in the Tammy Faye direction. Once it's on, though, mine sticks around for at least 12 hrs. I usually touch-up foundation during lunch (if I get a lunch and I actually think to do such a thing) ... lip gloss gets constantly reapplied because that durn hospital air is soooooooooooooo dry, I can't stand it.
