Hello, I currently attend Cerritos CC (located in OC, California) and am working on my pre-reqs so I can apply to nursing school. The problem is, I've been trying to sign up for the required anatomy class with no luck for a year (always full, even the waiting lists!) and it's driving me crazy! My registration appointment has passed and all the anatomy classes were closed so no luck this time either. I just want to give up nursing altogether because it feels like I'm wasting time and not going anywhere. I applied to the nearby Fullerton CC for Fall 2006 and my registeration appointment date is the 9th of AUGUST and their anatomy classes are filling up and several are closed already. There is Cypress CC which is also pretty near where I live and I emailed the nursing counselor and she told me that their anatomy classes are very popular and if I apply to Cypress the chance that I will get in is not high. What can I do??? I have to take this class to take Physiology (another popular class that fills up quickly) and this whole thing keeps setting me back.......please suggest on what I should do, I'm so frustrated. Thanks.

I don't know how your school works, but you might try registering online. I know a lot of schools like you to see the advisor first, and sometimes they say it's mandatory, but for some reason, the computer doesn't always know that! It's worth a shot. Apply for admission to the school and then try to register. Don't wait for your appointment. If it doesn't work, at least, you tried.
Another trick is to wait for the day tuition is due. Many times people register and don't pay. I don't know how this works with the waiting lists... but, if people don't pay, they are usually automatically dropped from the class. Also, when I went to the community college, they always let current students register before the general public. Have you been able to do this, or are you out of school only waiting for the one class?
My last suggestion is to go to the instructor, or just show up on the first day of class and beg them to let you in. (Again, I don't know how this works with the waiting list.)
Ok, one more suggestion... usually the first week of school is drop/add week. If you keep looking online, you might find a seat open up when students start adjusting their schedules. Hope this helps! Good luck!

Go and ask the instructor on the day of the first class or before..if you can 'add' and w/their signature you can override and go to the class. Oftentimes instructors allow overload b/c they know some ppl will drop.
Also take other classes b/c the longer you go and more credits you have the earlier your enrollment date will be...that is what I did..those two things.
Also, be advised it's highly competetive to enter nursing school anymore...so be prepared to just hang in..and jump through hoops ...and keep at it...and be willing to move to wherever you can get in...b/c that is your path the whole way through!
It ain't easy....but it can be done! :)

Call the school and find out when the drop day for nonpayment is--then register that morning for your class. There should be lots of peeps dropped from A&P for not paying their bill.

The 5 week Micro i am taking now was full. One of my friends was in the class and the day i started, i got the email address of the professor off of her and i emailed him, and said "look Mr X i want to take your micro class to get it out of the way I'm a nursing student starting this fall, and really want to take the class now instead of next summer" And he emailed me back and told me what to do to get in.I missed a day but hey it worked and i caught up easily
I would try anything anyone suggest on here, registering anyway online, emailing professor etc... If i learned anything about this college process is that there is always a way in if you try hard enough.

Hi! I went to both Fullerton College and Cypress College, so I am well aware that the anatomy classes are always full. But, I was able to add the class at both schools even though I had a late registration date. Unfortunately, I had to drop the class both times, which is a long story. Anyways, I don't know if this is still the case, but when I attended both schools (about a year or two ago), they did not use wait lists. So, if you check the registration website (Webstar?) everyday, sometimes a spot will open up and you can add the class. If they have decided to use wait lists, which I guess is what they do at Cerritos, you can always show up on the first day of class. People always fail to show up or end up dropping the class. Be persistent!!! Do not give up!!! I was in your shoes two years ago, but now I'm starting nursing school in the fall. GOOD LUCK!!!

Try taking the course online. I took it through www.iowacconline.org but www.ccconline.org also offers it. You have to be an independent learner to do it, but it is doable. Check to see if the nursing programs you are applying to will accept it. These classes DO include lab. Good luck!
Also check out edukan!www.edukan.org
yeah but make sure the school you want will take classes like A&P or Micro or Bio, Chem etc that you took online. My school and nursing program will not accept online science classes for some reason.

Like the others said. Do not wait for your appointment. I went to the community college for 3 years and never once did I make an advisor appointment. Now since you have already waited can your advisor pull some strings and get you in? If not be ready to sign up online as soon as the courses are available.

You can try to register for the class over the telephone. Sometimes the person doing phone registrations will put you into a class even if it is full or closed, because they know that someone will not show up. One the day of the class, arrive early and make sure you immediatly contact the teacher. Usually (in my school) whoever arrives late to a full class is dropped and you then would get to stay (if there was noone ahead of you in line that did the same thing).
