YEA!!! Congratulations! So, your orientation was today? Did they give you guys your schedule yet or anything?

dove apparel (uniform sizes, etc)
Hi! I think I read your posts in the CA forum. You were accepted at CSULB, right? Congratulations! I'm in the trimester program there. So, about the Dove uniforms, everyone pretty much wears the zip-top. One girl in my clinical group had the TLC top and we always wondered how she was able to get dressed all by herself. Haha! I completely agree about getting the pants a size larger, meaning that if you're between an XS and S, get the small.

ANATOMY 1 class is ALWAYS FULL! X(
Hi! I went to both Fullerton College and Cypress College, so I am well aware that the anatomy classes are always full. But, I was able to add the class at both schools even though I had a late registration date. Unfortunately, I had to drop the class both times, which is a long story. Anyways, I don't know if this is still the case, but when I attended both schools (about a year or two ago), they did not use wait lists. So, if you check the registration website (Webstar?) everyday, sometimes a spot will open up and you can add the class. If they have decided to use wait lists, which I guess is what they do at Cerritos, you can always show up on the first day of class. People always fail to show up or end up dropping the class. Be persistent!!! Do not give up!!! I was in your shoes two years ago, but now I'm starting nursing school in the fall. GOOD LUCK!!!

Cal State Long Beach BSN program
Thank You!!! I'm so excited, but a little nervous too! As far as the pre-reqs and stuff, I have a 4.0 GPA. CSULB looks at your science pre-req GPA, non-science pre-req GPA, and TEAS score. I had one class in progress (Intro. Organic and Biochem.), so they calculated it as a C, which brought my science GPA down to 3.5 something because it was a 5 unit class. On the TEAS test I got an 89%, I think. I have no idea if that is a good score or not. It was in the 99th percentile for the program though. I think if you have at least a 3.5 GPA you're almost guaranteed a spot.

Cal State Long Beach BSN program
Hi! I was just accepted into the BSN program at CSULB for Fall 2006! At orientation I chose to enter the trimester program, which the majority of theother students did as well. I'm sorry but I really can't give any input on the program as of yet, but the staff seems really helpful and organized despite it being a fairly new program. If you have any questions regarding admissions I'm sure I could be of some help, or if you have any specific questions regarding the program I can try to help. As far as the program being very impacted, I guess that would be a matter of opinion. I was told that about 300 people applied. I know for a fact that there are 54 people in the trimester program, but I'm not sure about the semester program, only that it was significantly less. I completely agree that going directly for the BSN will save a lot of time and money, especially with the trimester program. Well, again, if have any more questions I'll be happy to help. Good luck!!!

Microbiology??
I loved Microbiology!!! I know, I'm a bit of a geek, but I really enjoyed it. It helps that I had an awesome teacher that was really passionate about Microbiology. I know that it sounds weird to be passionate about Micro., but it made the class more fun and I learned so, so much! Almost everyone in the class was taking it for nursing, so the teacher took a very clinical approach. I agree with what everyone else said about studying, taking good notes, etc. My best advice would be to stay organized! That was key to getting an A in my Micro. class. Good luck and Congratulations!!!

Hows everyone hanging in? The countdown continues...
Four weeks left here, plus a week of finals! I can't wait for this semester to be over! Right now I'm taking the last of my general education classes and the last prereq fore nursing, Intro. Organic and Biochemistry (yuck!). I'm still waiting on my letter from the nursing program, so I'm more stressed about that than anything going on at school right now. Anyways . . . You have only two weeks left? I am so JEALOUS! Good luck with finals and have a great Easter!!!

Is it better to take A&P 1st year or 2nd?
I agree with Marci. If you do well in science, then taking A&P your first year shouldn't be a problem. For a lot of the freshmen in my class A&P was their first college science class, so they struggled at first. Once you figure out how to study and what works best for you, then you'll do fine. I remember that the biggest shock for these freshmen was the practical exams, so be prepared. Answers to your questions . . . 1. I had a hard time getting into A&P (classes are always full!), so I would take those classes as soon as possible, if you feel you're ready. The earlier you take them the earlier you can apply to a nursing program, right? 2. I took Chem. with A&P I, and then Micro. with A&P II. Not a big deal, but then again I was a Biology major before I switched to Nursing. I wouldn't recommend it, but it can be done. 3. You mentioned these classes: Human Development Life Span and Ecology of Human Nutrition. Or take some general education classes. 4. By far, I had the most reading in Human Physiology (A&P II). 5. Both are really easy classes at my school. Ask around at your school. 6. I took Micro. and A&P II together. Unless you love science or are in a huge hurry to finish all of your classes, I wouldn't recommend it. Getting an A in all of your science pre-reqs gives you a better shot when applying to nursing programs. Well, the last thing I'll say is GOOD LUCK! Before you know it, you'll be stressed out about waiting for acceptance letters rather than deciding what classes to take, at least that's how it felt for me. Also, talk to a counselor at your school or people who have taken these classes at your school. Everyone is going to have a different opinion and answer to your questions depending on how things are at their school. Again, GOOD LUCK!

I Got In!

Who's still waiting on "THE LETTER"
I'm still waiting too . . . patiently (yeah, right). I won't find out anything until the fourth week of April and the wait is killing me!!! My only Plan B is to reapply for Spring 07. I applied for a BSN program, so I really do not have any other classes to take. I guess I could take my upper division general education courses . . .

please share your thoughts...
I applied for CSULB! I just found out that I was accepted into the school, so I'll be transfering there in the fall. I also applied to the nursing program, but I won't find out about that until the end of April. I actually had to withdraw from CSUF for various reasons. Then I started all of my prerequisties for nursing at a community college, but discovered that the ADN program had a two-year waiting list. So, I'm graduating with an A.A. degree and will be transfering to CSULB. The great thing about CSULB is that there is no waiting list, but it's way more competitive. All of my prerequisites transfer and as far as I know, CSULB students do not have more priority over students that are transfering. Admission is based on GPA in science prerequisites and non-science prerequisites, as well as your score on the TEAS test. Well, sorry if wasn't much help, but CSULB is a great school! I haven't heard anything about San Diego, other than it's a notorious party school!

What's going on at CSULB? Does anybody find this unusual?
When did this happen??? I applied for the Basic BSN Program at CSULB, but I know several people who have applied for the Accelerated BSN Program. I can't believe that they would make this huge announcement in the middle of the application process. I'm shocked too! Have you called the department or sent an email?

Woo Hoo!! I am in!!
Congratulations!!! That is so exciting! I can't believe you applied in September and had to wait this long. I would have gone crazy! I applied in February and won't find out until the fourth week of April and I am already going crazy! It's great to hear that I'm not necessarily doomed if I get a thin envelope! Congratulations again!!! Go out and celebrate!!!

Does it really take two years to get into Nursing school?
I live in Southern California and just finished all of my prerequisites last semester. When I first started taking classes I thought that I would just apply to my community college's nursing program, but . . . it turns out that it has a 2-year wait list. I then quickly discovered that a 2-year wait list is pretty typical in southern california and everywhere else for that matter. So . . . I decided to work on my prerequisites for a BSN program. Almost every California State University has a BSN program. Although they usually do not do the whole wait list thing, there are a few more prerequisites and it's more competitive. At the end of this semester I'll graduate with my A.A. and hopefully start a BSN program in the fall. Let me know if you have any more specific questions, I'll be glad to help! Good Luck!!!

Body Worlds
You should definately go! It is so interesting. My Anatomy professor gave us extra credit to go to the exhibit when it was in Southern California. Unfortunately I went with some friends on the last weekend of the exhibit. The museum kept the exhibit open 24 hours a day for about 3 days, but it was still so, so crowded! It's interesting that you should mention the mother and the fetus, because during that last weekend some woman stoled the fetus from the exhibit. I have no idea why she would do something like that, but I guess they had it returned (???), I would have liked to see that. Anyways, you should definately go. I took friends that weren't in Anatomy or anything and they still found it so interesting! I suppose that some people would find it controversial, but we're pretty liberal in California. Oh, by the way, I actually went to Body Worlds 2, but I was told that there wasn't much difference. There was a similar exhibit in San Francisco that was more controversial though. Apparently the bodies that were "donated" were all of Asian descent. I guess that it is really uncommon for Asians to donate their bodies to science, so there was a question as to how the bodies were obtained. I can't remember the name of that exhibit, but it wasn't Body Worlds. Again, have fun and good luck in Anatomy.
