Considering accelerated BSN-if i dont get in
Hello, Here are my grades, I wouldn't say they are horrible but not perfect either and maybe not good enough for nursing. Nevertheless, I'll be applying for fall of 2007 because If I don't apply I'll never know if there was any possibility of getting accepted. As you can see I repeated two of the major sciences- and that is the core of my problem. Most programs don't accept more than one repetition. 1.AnatomyD-B+ 2.MicrobiologyD-B 3.PhysiologyB 4.ChemistryB 5.Statistics A 6.Intro to PsychologyB 7.Developmental PsychologyB 8.Abnormal PsychologyA 9.Intro to SociologyB 10.Diversity in Society (sociology class) A 11.SpeechB 12.Freshman English A/BB/B+ 13.English 103B 14.Critical ThinkingB- 15.EthicsB 16.HumanitiesA 17.NutritionC+ 18.ReligionC As a back up plan I applied to UC's and State schools- because im considering getting a Bachelors and then pursuing an accelerated BSN. However, I don't have any idea what I could major in. I was considering Psychology- but there is not much you can do if you don't have a masters...I love the health field...so I was hoping you could give me any other areas I can explore. Something that can help in nursing...Anyone out there doing an accelerated BSN??? If so, what is your bachelors degree...Please any advice would be helpful..thankyou!

what to do next..NEED SOME ADVICE
hi there, Ive completed all of my prerequisites and corequisites Anatomy D repeated: B+ Microbiology D repeated: B Physiology B Chemistry B Speech B intro psychology B developmental psychology B english B, B+ sociology B Nutrition C+ Im currently attending a community college and I need to transfer because I dont want to do ADN... so in order to transfer i need to take a math class...unfortunately i wasnt placed on the one i needed..so i have to take a remedial class.. im currently registered for that remedial class and a statistics class for the fall...that was a mistake made by the comp because im not allowed to take statistics before taking that remedial math class.. however, i went to see an advisor and she told me to go ahead and try to take both since I went up to precalculus in high school... so here is my dilemma...should i wait to apply in december for nursing school for the fall of 2007..which will give me two semesters to complete those two math classes...or should i go ahead and apply for spring 2007 in case im able to take both classes? i dont know what to do...and the deadline is august 31 Aside from that, since ive completed all of my classes for nursing..and still have to wait to take those math classes...my advisor told me to go ahead and take 3 or 4 more classes more to get an associate in liberal studies... Do you think this will be of any good? Also, im extremely worried about my grades...at a quick glance i'd think they were good grades..but are they good enough for nursing? ive also had to repeat 2 classes.. anatomy and microbiology...i was right out of high school and very ignorant and didnt think of the consequences when i didnt study for those classes..do you think this will lower my chances of getting into a nursing program...im so scared..i hope im not the only one... well thankyou for reading all of this..please offer me any advise..

which Chemistry class???? help please
Hi everybody! I'm sooooooooooooo confused on which chemistry class i should take this summer. Im currently enrolled in Chemistry 101 Today was my first class but I thought it was too much! its five hours with only a 15 minute break. I feel so insecure. I took a chem class in High School but I struggled through it. This CC im attending has fundamentals of chemistry or introduction to chemistry which is the same class so now Im very confused on which class i should take. Also, how many darn chemistry classes do we have to take for nursing? my belief is that most schools only require fundamentals of chemistry or an introductory course. In this CC you first take Fundamentals of chemistry (if you havent taken a chem class before) Chem 101 chem 102 organic chemistry biochemistry DO WE HAVE TO TAKE ALL OF THESE CLASSES FOR NURSING??? IM GONNA DIE IF WE DO.....MY HEAD FEELS LIKE IT WAS BEATEN WITH A HAMMER...LIKE A GAZILLION TIMES! IM WAY IN OVER MY HEAD! pleasseeee HELP me! I

GPA..repetitions.....
Hi everybody! I was hoping to get some feedback on this: I've read many posts with people with 3.5's and above GPA's so Ive always wondered if you got those high GPAs the first time around or if you've repeated any classes? I've read in here that you should repeat classes to get better GPA's so my question is... Does your school have a policy on repeating classes? For example, I know that Cal state Long Beach and Los Angeles have a maximum of two repetitions. So that brings me to another question. For these schools that only allow two repetitions they average both grades. So how do they do that? Do any of you know? If you get a D the first time and an A the second is that a B? or if you get a D on the first try and a B on the second is that a C? Im so confused...please help me I need to know how to calculate my GPA with two repetitions.

What happens if you dont get in?????
hi everybody, I always try to think positive thoughts, However, i also like to think about alternatives. Its inevitable for me to think what would happen if I dont get admitted into a nursing program. So thats my question, What happens after investing all your time and energy into your pre-requisites and although you have good grades they are not good enough to get admitted into a nursing program? I've heard people say that they've been denied with 3.0's and up.. so What happens? are you forced to change your carrer path? can you apply those classes to another profession? What are the alternatives or choices for those who dont get admitted into nursing school? What are your plans if you dont get admitted? thanks a lot!

please share your thoughts...
hi everybody hope everyone is doing well I was hoping I could hear your thoughts on the following... I'm 19 going on 20 :balloons: pursuing nursing. I recently decided to withdraw from the college i was attending for several reasons and Last year I applied to several schools in the CSU system and I've been accepted to a few as a transfer pre-nursing major. Now I've heard how difficult it is to get accepted into a nursing program but usually I hear this from people who have completed their nursing pre-requisites at community colleges and then try applying to 2 year nursing programs where there is no guarantee you will get in ... the waiting lists, lottery and all that jazz. So it seems to me that it is definitely more difficult to transfer to a school when you've done your prerequisites elsewhere. My plan is to choose a college and finish my last 2 prerequisites there. My thoughts are that once I'm in the school it will be much easier getting into their program because I will be their priority unlike hundreds who apply directly to the nursing program. I wanted to share this and hopefully hear some of your thoughts. ooh and by the way i was hoping to get in touch with anyone attending either CSU Long beach or San Diego...to help me in my decision...thanks have a great evening!

Algebra nightmare
hi everyone, just wanted to mention to anyone taking pre-requisite courses in math to check with your counselor/advisor if you can make those classes (elementary algebra, intermediate algebra or any remedial math class) a credit/no credit class and that way it wont harm your GPA. I am actually taking intermediate algebra which is a pre-requisite to get into statistics or college algebra -and Im making it count as a credit/no credit class so it wont harm my GPA...check into that..it might be helpful. bye bye and good luck everyone!

Maybe nursing isn't for me
I completely sympathize with you..i went through the same experience. I was a freshman in college taking 17 units including Anatomy and Microbiology and had the worse case of anxiety! . I studied and studied and used all of the available resources and in my first exam i was expecting an A ..instead i got a C in lecture and a C+ in Lab which is not bad but one of my worst mistakes was to compare myself to my classmates so i was hard on myself.. ...i cried to my mom every night and truly believed i could never be a nurse with those grades. After that first exam i didnt study as much and with every exam my grades kept on going downhill until the final where i came back to reality and studied and got a B but unfortunately it was too late and ended up with a D in the class. i had poured my heart and soul on that first exam and it didnt pay off and my negativity resulted in me not passing the class. That is the greatest mistake you can do!!!! Please PLEASE!!! dont let this test determine your future...its only the first test! YOU WILL DO BETTER! and think positive thoughts.. think of the difference you will make!...this is only the begining!..good luck!

You caught Cheaters... what would you do or have you done?
it is such a shame! It really bothers me that college students continue to cheat and its even more outragious when students cheat in classes pertaining to their major. I had many issues with a friend who cheated in our anatomy class, it was so incredible to me how she had no respect for herself or the rest of the class or felt any shame in signing the honor code at the end of our exams. Most of our classes are the foundation for our careers and it is upseting that people continue to do this. But ultimately the cheaters are not hurting the professors or their classmates but themselves.

policy on repeated courses???
hi everybody Anyone out there know how to average repeated course grades????...an example would be great! My school only allows 2 repetitions and if a course is repeated both grades are averaged in computing gpa. I was wondering if you have the same policy at your school because ive heard of so many people repeating classes even if they have gotten B's.... so whats your schools policy on repeating classes?

My Story
Hello everyone I am very excited to be part of this amazing site that has given me hope... Well I don't know when that nursing seed started growing in my heart. But in high school I was in a health academy where we focused on medical terminology and all that good stuff..and became very involved. anyhow I graduated and went off to a great private nursing school. I was so happy and proud of myself ... my first semester in college I took 17 units. (anatomy, microbiology, English, psychology, speech and intro into college studies) I didn't have any say on what classes I wanted to take but I was up for the challenge... So long story short, I got B+,B,B,A, and 2 D...and yes ofcourse I got the Ds in anatomy and microbiology. I don't know when things started to go downhill...I believe it was after my first major Anatomy exam where I thought I prepared myself very well. I knew every bone in my body and was ready to go! I tend to exaggerate and make each thing that happens to me the end of the world and my head starts going off in a million directions .... if I don't pass this exam.. I wont pass my class ..I will not be able to graduate from college, I will not own that nice house I wanted ..I WILL BE A FAILURE...So my anxiety got the best of me and I ended up getting a B lab and C in lecture. I was so disappointed...I had studied so hard... soon I felt I was in hell... I had the worst of luck! I had the roommate from hell who thought I was invisible or something ... and so much more...I wasn't happy. So the two D's meant I couldn't go on to the nursing program. GREAT! More bad news... so I took less units second semester and did a lot better. But now I have to transfer out of that college ... and since other schools require other pre-requisites in addition to the ones I took. ..i will be spending a year taking those classes and waiting until next year because nursing programs begin every fall... So here I am drowning in despair because two miserable D's have cost me a year. I could be starting clinicals this fall.... Sigh...I feel so disappointed in myself and I have let down my parents who mean the world to me. I know in my heart this is not the end of the world but it feels like it... I will be enrolling at a state school in January and hopefully get into their nursing program fall 2006... I want to believe that things happen for a reason..i wish I could know why...???? Why??? Why????????????????????????? BUT I have to move on and let go of the past ...hopefully this experience will give me something special ... I read a post at the begining of the year and it inspired me tremendously ... here it is... "..."This is a situation you can turn into a positive experience. You will care for patients who have had the world turned upside down, who have lost abilities and faith in themselves. You will be able to offer something very special to those patients, a particular sense of understanding that comes only from having had hopes denied. Overcoming this tremendous disappointment will enable you to speak with authenticity in helping your patients back to a state of wellness."
