  1. YEA!!! Congratulations! So, your orientation was today? Did they give you guys your schedule yet or anything?
  2. Hi! I think I read your posts in the CA forum. You were accepted at CSULB, right? Congratulations! I'm in the trimester program there. So, about the Dove uniforms, everyone pretty much wears the zip-top. One girl in my clinical group had the TLC top and we always wondered how she was able to get dressed all by herself. Haha! I completely agree about getting the pants a size larger, meaning that if you're between an XS and S, get the small.
  3. Hi! I went to both Fullerton College and Cypress College, so I am well aware that the anatomy classes are always full. But, I was able to add the class at both schools even though I had a late registration date. Unfortunately, I had to drop the class both times, which is a long story. Anyways, I don't know if this is still the case, but when I attended both schools (about a year or two ago), they did not use wait lists. So, if you check the registration website (Webstar?) everyday, sometimes a spot will open up and you can add the class. If they have decided to use wait lists, which I guess is what they do at Cerritos, you can always show up on the first day of class. People always fail to show up or end up dropping the class. Be persistent!!! Do not give up!!! I was in your shoes two years ago, but now I'm starting nursing school in the fall. GOOD LUCK!!!
  4. Thank You!!! I'm so excited, but a little nervous too! As far as the pre-reqs and stuff, I have a 4.0 GPA. CSULB looks at your science pre-req GPA, non-science pre-req GPA, and TEAS score. I had one class in progress (Intro. Organic and Biochem.), so they calculated it as a C, which brought my science GPA down to 3.5 something because it was a 5 unit class. On the TEAS test I got an 89%, I think. I have no idea if that is a good score or not. It was in the 99th percentile for the program though. I think if you have at least a 3.5 GPA you're almost guaranteed a spot.
  5. Hi! I was just accepted into the BSN program at CSULB for Fall 2006! At orientation I chose to enter the trimester program, which the majority of theother students did as well. I'm sorry but I really can't give any input on the program as of yet, but the staff seems really helpful and organized despite it being a fairly new program. If you have any questions regarding admissions I'm sure I could be of some help, or if you have any specific questions regarding the program I can try to help. As far as the program being very impacted, I guess that would be a matter of opinion. I was told that about 300 people applied. I know for a fact that there are 54 people in the trimester program, but I'm not sure about the semester program, only that it was significantly less. I completely agree that going directly for the BSN will save a lot of time and money, especially with the trimester program. Well, again, if have any more questions I'll be happy to help. Good luck!!!
  6. I loved Microbiology!!! I know, I'm a bit of a geek, but I really enjoyed it. It helps that I had an awesome teacher that was really passionate about Microbiology. I know that it sounds weird to be passionate about Micro., but it made the class more fun and I learned so, so much! Almost everyone in the class was taking it for nursing, so the teacher took a very clinical approach. I agree with what everyone else said about studying, taking good notes, etc. My best advice would be to stay organized! That was key to getting an A in my Micro. class. Good luck and Congratulations!!!
  7. Four weeks left here, plus a week of finals! I can't wait for this semester to be over! Right now I'm taking the last of my general education classes and the last prereq fore nursing, Intro. Organic and Biochemistry (yuck!). I'm still waiting on my letter from the nursing program, so I'm more stressed about that than anything going on at school right now. Anyways . . . You have only two weeks left? I am so JEALOUS! Good luck with finals and have a great Easter!!!
  8. I agree with Marci. If you do well in science, then taking A&P your first year shouldn't be a problem. For a lot of the freshmen in my class A&P was their first college science class, so they struggled at first. Once you figure out how to study and what works best for you, then you'll do fine. I remember that the biggest shock for these freshmen was the practical exams, so be prepared. Answers to your questions . . . 1. I had a hard time getting into A&P (classes are always full!), so I would take those classes as soon as possible, if you feel you're ready. The earlier you take them the earlier you can apply to a nursing program, right? 2. I took Chem. with A&P I, and then Micro. with A&P II. Not a big deal, but then again I was a Biology major before I switched to Nursing. I wouldn't recommend it, but it can be done. 3. You mentioned these classes: Human Development Life Span and Ecology of Human Nutrition. Or take some general education classes. 4. By far, I had the most reading in Human Physiology (A&P II). 5. Both are really easy classes at my school. Ask around at your school. 6. I took Micro. and A&P II together. Unless you love science or are in a huge hurry to finish all of your classes, I wouldn't recommend it. Getting an A in all of your science pre-reqs gives you a better shot when applying to nursing programs. Well, the last thing I'll say is GOOD LUCK! Before you know it, you'll be stressed out about waiting for acceptance letters rather than deciding what classes to take, at least that's how it felt for me. Also, talk to a counselor at your school or people who have taken these classes at your school. Everyone is going to have a different opinion and answer to your questions depending on how things are at their school. Again, GOOD LUCK!
  9. CONGRATULATIONS!!! That's so exciting! GOOD LUCK this fall! Maybe my letter will come early too . . . Fingers Crossed!
  10. I'm still waiting too . . . patiently (yeah, right). I won't find out anything until the fourth week of April and the wait is killing me!!! My only Plan B is to reapply for Spring 07. I applied for a BSN program, so I really do not have any other classes to take. I guess I could take my upper division general education courses . . .
  11. I applied for CSULB! I just found out that I was accepted into the school, so I'll be transfering there in the fall. I also applied to the nursing program, but I won't find out about that until the end of April. I actually had to withdraw from CSUF for various reasons. Then I started all of my prerequisties for nursing at a community college, but discovered that the ADN program had a two-year waiting list. So, I'm graduating with an A.A. degree and will be transfering to CSULB. The great thing about CSULB is that there is no waiting list, but it's way more competitive. All of my prerequisites transfer and as far as I know, CSULB students do not have more priority over students that are transfering. Admission is based on GPA in science prerequisites and non-science prerequisites, as well as your score on the TEAS test. Well, sorry if wasn't much help, but CSULB is a great school! I haven't heard anything about San Diego, other than it's a notorious party school!
  12. When did this happen??? I applied for the Basic BSN Program at CSULB, but I know several people who have applied for the Accelerated BSN Program. I can't believe that they would make this huge announcement in the middle of the application process. I'm shocked too! Have you called the department or sent an email?
  13. Congratulations!!! That is so exciting! I can't believe you applied in September and had to wait this long. I would have gone crazy! I applied in February and won't find out until the fourth week of April and I am already going crazy! It's great to hear that I'm not necessarily doomed if I get a thin envelope! Congratulations again!!! Go out and celebrate!!!
  14. I live in Southern California and just finished all of my prerequisites last semester. When I first started taking classes I thought that I would just apply to my community college's nursing program, but . . . it turns out that it has a 2-year wait list. I then quickly discovered that a 2-year wait list is pretty typical in southern california and everywhere else for that matter. So . . . I decided to work on my prerequisites for a BSN program. Almost every California State University has a BSN program. Although they usually do not do the whole wait list thing, there are a few more prerequisites and it's more competitive. At the end of this semester I'll graduate with my A.A. and hopefully start a BSN program in the fall. Let me know if you have any more specific questions, I'll be glad to help! Good Luck!!!
  15. You should definately go! It is so interesting. My Anatomy professor gave us extra credit to go to the exhibit when it was in Southern California. Unfortunately I went with some friends on the last weekend of the exhibit. The museum kept the exhibit open 24 hours a day for about 3 days, but it was still so, so crowded! It's interesting that you should mention the mother and the fetus, because during that last weekend some woman stoled the fetus from the exhibit. I have no idea why she would do something like that, but I guess they had it returned (???), I would have liked to see that. Anyways, you should definately go. I took friends that weren't in Anatomy or anything and they still found it so interesting! I suppose that some people would find it controversial, but we're pretty liberal in California. Oh, by the way, I actually went to Body Worlds 2, but I was told that there wasn't much difference. There was a similar exhibit in San Francisco that was more controversial though. Apparently the bodies that were "donated" were all of Asian descent. I guess that it is really uncommon for Asians to donate their bodies to science, so there was a question as to how the bodies were obtained. I can't remember the name of that exhibit, but it wasn't Body Worlds. Again, have fun and good luck in Anatomy.
  16. Keely, It sounds to me like you really know your stuff (you studied way more than I ever have) but you just had major test anxiety, which I'm sure everyone has experienced. Just keep in mind that this was only the first test and a lot of people usually do the worst on the first test. Now you know what to expect on future tests and you can focus your studying. Trying relaxing (I know, it's easier said than done) before you take a test. I never wait until the last minute to study, so right before the test, when everyone is stressing out and looking over their notes, I just sit there and relax usually listening to my iPod or something. Also, please do not reconsider a career in nursing based on this one test. Judging by all the time you seemed to spend studying, I would say that any patient would be happy to have a nurse that was so hardworking and dedicated. Good luck and remember, RELAX!!!
  17. I have a quick question, even though I won't be opening The Envelope until the fourth week of April. Is it anything like college admissions envelopes? You know, big envelope pretty much means yes, small envelope pretty much means no? I'm just trying to prepare myself.
  18. You're so lucky! There are so many more ADN-BSN Programs than just BSN programs. I'm not sure what school you were looking into but Long Beach State's RN Pathway Program would have you apply by March 15 for Fall admission. Which I guess would mean that you apply by March 15, 2007 for Fall 2007. I'm pretty sure this is how most of the programs work. Good luck!
  19. Hey! I just finished all of my prerequisites in Fall 2005 and I am now applying to several different nursing programs. First of all, yes, you will probably be able to finish a BSN in the same amount of time you ADN program. Almost all of the ADN programs in Southern California (LA/Orange Area) have wait lists. The community college I attend has a wait list of 1 1/2 to 2 years. I am pretty sure that most of the BSN programs in the area do not have wait lists and are instead impacted majors. Impacted majors only mean that the major requires additional criteria for admission (gpa, prerequisites, etc.). I am applying to CSULB and they do not have a wait list. If you are not accepted you will to reapply the next semester. Hope this helps. Amanda
  20. Hey Everyone! My test results finally came in this morning. My score was 88.8%. It's in the 99th percentile nationally, and in the 98th percentile for my program, so I hope that's good enough to get in. My school awards 4 points for GPA (science prerequisites), 2 more points for GPA (g.e. prerequisites), and 2 points for the TEAS. I have a 4.0 GPA, but . . . I have one course in progress (Intro. Organic and Biochemisty) which will be calculated as a C into my GPA. I haven't really figured out what that will do to my GPA, but I hope it doesn't do too much damage. Oh well, I can't worry about all of this too much, school starts tomorrow for me. Good luck to everyone this semester . . . with school, applications, waiting for acceptance letters, etc. Mandee
  21. Traci, I'm not speaking for anyone else, but I didn't take your comment as you being insensitve. I'm only soooooo jealous! I haven't been able to check my results on the TEAS yet. We had to take our tests on scantrons, then the schools faxes them to the company, and ATI posts the results online. It can take up to 48 business hours. I hate waiting, but I better get used to it. I'll have to wait until April to find out if I'm actually accepted into the program. I've never been patient.
  22. i loved my speech class!!! i took public speaking this past fall and easily earned an a. i couldn't agree more with stpauligirl in that the key to get through public speaking is with a great teacher. ask around at your school and get recommendations. not to scare you even more, but i have heard some serious horror stories from other people about their speech teachers. anyways, i was pretty much in a similar situation as you. i had taken interpersonal communication to fulfill the g.e. requirement, but then i decided i wanted to go into the nursing program and found out that i had to take public speaking instead. i was absolutely dreading it!!! it wouldn't surprise me at all if you find out that everyone in your class has the same fear of public speaking as you do. trust me, that's what happened in my class. a couple of more tips . . . 1. practice!!! 2. do not memorize your speeches! (i know that sounds weird, but if you are so focused on delivering your speech word-for-word, one mistake can throw you off and it can be difficult to recover.) 3. practice!!!
  23. Traci, You got your results already??? How cool is that? I just took mine this morning too. I think that I did okay, or at least I hope I did okay. I won't get my results until 5 pm today at the earliest, or 5 pm on Monday at the latest, but I'll post my results as soon as I can. I'm sure that you did awesome, but at least you get to take it again if you want to improve your score. My application is due Feb. 15, so this was my one and only shot at the test. Good luck with your meeting on Tuesday!!!
  24. Hey everyone! Tomorrow is the big day for me too! I was feeling pretty good about it until I read about the conversions. I completely forgot about that stuff. Anyways . . . Good luck Stdy2BaNurse!!!
  25. ByTheLake, I am so happy to hear that you thought the test was easy. I'm not really nervous about taking the test, but I guess I'm nervous about the whole application process of getting into the program I want. I just finished all of my prerequisites, so I can finally apply. I won't find out until the end of April if I'm in. My GPA is really good, so I am just hoping my test score will be good as well.
