  1. Do you happen to know the best apartment complexes in Farmingtonn or Kirtland to live in? I have been trying to find one on the internet but have been unsuccessful so far. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks
  2. you did the right thing. you can not endager the pt you are with to help another pt, especially if there are other nurses helping the other pt. I have een in this position before and have always finished up what I was doing then went to see if I was needed.
  3. Never never never..take a deep breath and count to 100 or put on your poker face
  4. It was pretty easy, and the homework/chapter problems do resemble the mid term and final exams. Just time consuming is all.
  5. do not take any co req's with any block if nursing. Save it for the summer if you can.
  6. I try to use all the features on the pumps, especially the VTBI and the Time Remaining features. I program the pumps so that it alarms when I have one hour of fluids left..that way my short half life fluids never get close to running dry. VTBI is great for when you only give certain amounts of fluids. I like seening how much time is left on a bag so that I can replace it before it runs out or replace the bag for the next shift so that they are not chansing empty bags at the begining of the shift.
  7. Nurses are human and should not have to take crap like this...but as long as management veiw nursing as a customer service industry and not a care industry (and nurses do not stand up for each other and make excuses for this type of behavior), this abuse will continue. the only way out of this situation where I work is to have the patient fire you. some people dread this, but at times, I pray for it because that ends the relationship with that patient.
  8. I do not tolerate abuse, not physical not verbal. I do not care what state of mind a patient is in, it is just not called for. People are not allowed to go to a fast food place and verbally and physically assult the workers, so why should we allow ourselves to be victims. it upsets me when people justify patients bad behaviors with excuse like: they are upset because they are sick, sad, demented, whatever. vilolence against nurses should be unacceptable no matter what excuse is given. until we as nurses no longer tolerate such behavior, it will keep occuring. if we make excuses and tolerate such crap, we are to blame.
  9. Unfortunatly, we allow as many as can squeeze in and yes we must scurry to find chairs for all of them. I wish hospitals would have set visiting times and set limits on the number of people allowed in the room. pt care would be easier, because time would not be wasted getting things for overnight visitors and care can be completly focused on the pt and thewir needs.
  10. having had both, I prefer knowledgable. nothing like being in serious trouble and having a "caring nurse" trying to give you comfort instead of running for a doctor to stop the internal hemorraging. warm and fuzzi is overrated. besides, being knowledgeable shows that you care
  11. Please just toss the tubing. Do not put the pt at risk over saving the hospital money. Whatever you do, do not flush that nitro into the pt quikly, because you can bottem him out, resulting in a bad day for both of you. Besides, once the nitro has been d/c'd, giving him any more would consitute prescribing, and that is a no -no. Better safe than sorry, toss the tubing.
  12. I thank the nurses who work ED so I do not have to. However, the drama does continue when these pt hit the floor. For example: - the ED nurse said you would get me and my family a full tray even though it is 0200 (this from a guy with a massive GI bleed that is recieving blood as fast as it can go in) - can you trim my toenails and my wife's toenails..***? - I have 10/10 pain and no on in ED gave me anything, (chart says you maxed out everything that you did not have an allergy to) - why cann't granny have water. so is so thirsty she is going to die from it now...no sir she is well hydrated with the iv ns, but the heart attak she is having will kill her before the dehyration will - no I can not treat your entire family, and friends for whatever ails them
  13. I scratch your back, you scratch mine. As long as she is using the break times to pump. I think it is okay. The moment I found out that she is not using the extra time(outside of regular break times) to pump, I would stop helping her. This is more justifible than taking smoke breaks.
