A first for me in clinicals today

Published

I'm just so excited and happy still that I had to share! I put in my first foley today. A female foley at that. And nailed it on the first try!

While I was in the ICU today (with the best pair of nurses I've worked with yet) I got a great lesson in reading ECG strips, admissions, piggyback IVs and a whole host of other exciting things I can't tell anyone. (don't want the HIPPA to squash me.)

What did you do today that made you happy?

Congratulations! It is always a great feeling when you nail a new skill on our first try! Today I got to stay home and study instead of going to class or a 12 hour practicum day, so that made me pretty happy :)

I don't have a Happy Moment of my own to share today, but wanted to let you know you brought a big smile to my face as I remember having the kind of Happy Moments as a student you so aptly described :D

Congratulations on the foley, they are frequently hurdles for newbies! :)

I got to do lots last week. It was my last week on the floor for the semester. They were going to let me start an IV but we ran out of time. I did though get to totally redo a pump with new fluids and hang two IV antibiotics piggy back. It was complicated so I got the gist of it but will probably not remember totally for next time. LOL.

Congrats on the foley! That's tough to nail on the first try.

My happy has been reading your post and the replies. Brings a smile to my face to read about the excitement in doing things that I now consider mundane after 20 plus years.

Thanks :-)

I got to read a wonderful post - by a nursing student sharing her joy - THANKS OP!!

Well I haven't started clinical yet, but I talked to 3 students today who are ahead of my in the program. They were really friendly to me, gave me a few tips, and told me what they loved and hated (med surg was unanimous). Congrats on the foley and other great clinical experiences!

It's great to see you guys being excited about Foleys and IVs. Just wanted to tell you to keep that learning going and when you aren't exciting about work (once you are out of school), try to take a new course or learn a new skill. Never stop learning!

Today was my last day of clinical this semester :) It's been a long 16 weeks!

Congrats! As a student myself I love hearing about fellow student's successes. I was able to insert my first foley during my OB rotation and nailed the first one as well, but actually bombed the second! (I stood on the wrong side of the bed and contaminated :sorry:). Looking forward to saving myself on my next try! :)

As for my good news? I found out the other day that I PASSED PEDS!!! That was the last class of my specialties rotation and now I'm officially on summer break! So happy I could squeal!

CONGRATS!!

I took my last lecture exam for the semester for A & P 1 and I got an A, which gave me a pass on the Final Exam!! My first semester back in college since 1984, and I got an A in both my classes, woohoo!! Not bad for an old lady, lol.

Three weeks off and then A & P II this summer!

Awesome post, nice to read happy news!
