DUI as a student? What's to come?
I got a DUI while actually in nursing school, and I just received the all clear from my BON and take my NCLEX at the end of this month. I know everyone hates the phrase, but they really do decide on a case by case basis. Nursing is my passion and I decided long ago that I was going to do whatever it took to become a nurse even knowing that I would have a hard time (I have a past criminal history as well). I just kept my head down the rest of the way through and never gave up on my goals and here I am. When you send in your application to the board, they will ask you to write a letter of explanation. Just write from the heart and explain the situation and be honest. Ask for solid letters of recommendation from people in authority, and disclose absolutely everything on the application. The rest is up to them, and out of your hands. But if nursing is your passion, you should definitely at least try. Just keep your chin up and keep your eyes on the prize, and good luck.

In for the Long Haul
I'm not sure what state you live in, or where the above commenters are from but I can tell you that Florida BON asks if you've had anything sealed or expunged on their application.. So you would have to disclose it either way. Our professors advised us to disclose absolutely EVERYTHING so as to not run into any problems in the future and be accused of non-disclosure. In my opinion, I wouldn't put off nursing school for another year because of the situation you described. I do understand that different states do things differently, and some require you to run the background check with the BON before starting the program, but it depends on where you live. Like I said, Florida doesn't do that until after you've completed the program and are applying to take the NCLEX. It would be helpful if we knew what state you are planning to apply to.

Got ATT, am I in the clear?
Yes, I think I read your post about your situation, which is why I was freaking out a little! Reading about how varied it is from state to state was giving me heart palpitations! I did disclose absolutely everything on my initial application to the BON so I am hoping that means I am in the clear!! I saw that you got your license and that everything worked out, congrats! & Thank you!!

South Florida salary? Travel nursing better option?
I just moved to Jupiter as well but from Fort Lauderdale. I take my NCLEX at the end of this month and will be starting the job app process soon so I can't give you much advice about salaries just yet. From the people I have talked to, Jupiter Medical Center is highly recommended. I've also heard that St. Mary's and Delray Medical are excellent certified trauma centers. They're a bit of a drive though.. It just depends on what you're looking for. I would also look into Palm Beach Gardens Medical Center. Keep us updated and I'll do the same!

Got ATT, am I in the clear?
Called FBON today. The woman on the line informed me that if I was given approval to test, then I should be fine and will receive my license after passing my NCLEX. Huge relief!! I think I'll still be in disbelief though until it actually happens!

Got ATT, am I in the clear?
I wish Florida's process was like that. We had to complete a background check to get into our nursing program, but all they did was send me a letter saying that they reviewed my criminal history and were going to allow me to continue through their program but they could not guarantee that I would be licensed after graduation. Talk about an anxiety inducing letter to receive just before starting nursing school. Nothing gets sent to the BON as far as I know, until after graduation. Some friends who have been in the same boat as me were clear as soon as they got their ATT, but then again I haven't heard of anyone who got flat out denied or were given stips so I have no idea if that happens before or after taking NCLEX in Florida. Was hoping someone on here could give me insight.

Broward College Nursing January 2016
Process I and II have a lot more on campus lab days since it is your first semester, they needed to get you prepared for the hospital. Now that you've moved on to GIGU you may have on-campus lab for the first week maybe two and then after that it's all hospital. You'll have clinical once a week which will be assigned once the semester starts. So basically you'll have class/clinical only 3 days out of the week. A lot less than what you've gotten used to in Process. Use your time wisely though to study!

Broward College Nursing Program January 2017
Money aside, Broward College has an excellent reputation with the local hospitals and they are a very rigorous program but it prepares you. Clinicals are tough and can be quite stressful at times but they are pushy for a reason- to mold you into the best nurse you can be. I just graduated in May and it was a hard journey but so worth it. Good luck to all of you hoping to get in in January.

Got ATT, am I in the clear?
Like many of you, I recently went through the pain-staking process of applying to my state's BON with all the feelings of anxiety that come along with it when having a criminal background. After waiting for nearly a month, I received my ATT via email from Pearson. A few days later, I received a letter in the mail stating "Florida BON is pleased to inform you that you may sit for your NCLEX exam" I am very grateful for being given this opportunity, but I am still anxious and worried that something may still pop up. My question to you all is, have you received a letter in the mail AFTER passing your NCLEX stating your license has stipulations/is restricted? Or that you have to appear in front of the board for them to make a final decision? Or am I in the clear? I always thought that if anything, they would let me know before letting me take the NCLEX but I would just like to know for my peace of mind if there's still a possibility of anything.

Snail mail vs email
Hey everyone, these past few weeks have been quite nerve wracking for me because I wasn't sure what the outcome from the BON was going to be for me- I have anxiously been waiting for my ATT. well, last week I received my ATT from Pearson via email first, and then got a letter in the mail yesterday stating the Florida BON was pleased to inform me that I may sit for my NCLEX. Many thoughts began swirling in my head as i analyzed every detail and difference between my classmates and I. It seems as though literally everyone else I've asked received their approval letter first via email and then their ATT. I guess I'm just still in disbelief over this whole situation and am so grateful for being given this opportunity, but it's like I'm just waiting for the shoe to drop at any moment. Am I reading too much into this? Am I freaking out for nothing? Has anyone ever received a letter from Florida BON after taking their NCLEX containing stipulations or restrictions on your license? Or am I in the clear ?

Early Morning Nurses (and Nursing Students)
I second laying out your clothes the night before. This definitely helps in the morning, when you're half asleep and trying to get out the door. When I first started nursing school, I would realize just after getting into my car or worse, when I got to the hospital, that I had forgotten at least 1 thing at home- whether it be my watch, or my badge, so I made a "supplies basket" in my room with all of my clinical supplies in it (pen light, stethoscope, scissors, badge holder, etc.) which made my life 100 x's easier on clinical mornings. I am the type of person who won't wake up with just 1 alarm so I had to set several. I was too excited/nervous on clinical days to not get up though, it brought me back to those grade school days when you would wake up the morning of a field trip with butterflies in your tummy.. oh the good ole days.

Got a DUI in nursing school & NCLEX
THANK YOU for making this post. I am in the exact same situation, and I am dreading sending the application to take the NCLEX. Hearing stories like yours give me hope once more. Thank you again.

Math help
Hello all, I need help with a math problem. I'm about to start trends and my professor decided to add 2 problems that I have never encountered before so I'm not sure how to solve them. I have the correct answers, I just don't know how to solve the problem to get them. I would use my math textbook but alas I'm stuck at my boyfriend's house all day, so a little help would be appreciated! The problem is as follows: A patient with acute asthma is prescribed 400 mg of Aminophylline to be added to 50 ml D5W over 1 hour. If the tubing drop factor is 15 gtts/ml calculate the drops per minute if the available medicine comes as Aminophylline 500 mg/25 ml. _________ gtts/min Again, I'm not looking for the answer, I'm just looking for help on how to solve this problem. I appreciate it.
