sounds to me like Zelenskyy should be a little more appreciative and stay in his lane.

maybe some of those European diplomats who have been supporting zelenskyy on social media (since this) will start supporting him financially also instead of the America tax payers mostly funding the war overseas

LOL

Europe has definitely "stepped up" since the Liar in Chief is going to break the US agreement with Ukraine that allowed them to give up their rather large nuclear arsenal in returnn for a security alliance with the USA.  It's almost like you can't trust Trump to honor our global agreements.   I guess conservatives celebrate that sort of erratic diplomacy and bully tactics.

Why Ukraine gave up its nuclear weapons — and what that means in an invasion by Russia

Quote

Three decades ago, the newly independent country of Ukraine was briefly the third-largest nuclear power in the world. Thousands of nuclear arms had been left on Ukrainian soil by Moscow after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. But in the years that followed, Ukraine made the decision to completely denuclearize. In exchange, the U.S., the U.K. and Russia would guarantee Ukraine's security in a 1994 agreement known as the Budapest Memorandum.

The Budapest Memorandum on Security Assurances was a political agreement signed in 1994 by Ukraine, the United States, the United Kingdom, and Russia, which provided security assurances to Ukraine in exchange for giving up its nuclear arsenal. It committed the signatories to respect Ukraine's sovereignty and territorial integrity, but has been violated by Russia, particularly during the annexation of Crimea in 2014 and later 2022 invasion.  Knowing this,  one can understand why Zelensky responded in the White House to Trump and especially J.D. Vances comments "Ukraine started the war and Russia is not the aggressor" this week.

How disrespectful of you to counter the Trump/ Russia narrative with actual facts and history.  Thank you.

Speaking of history, I seem to remember a tidbit from the 2016 election. While the Rs were choosing their nominee, the R platform included a plank opposing the annexation of Crimea by Putin's Russia. As soon as trump secured the nomination, poof! the whole R platform just went away. They replaced it with "what he said …”

Russia claims it needs to invade Ukraine to save them from Nazies. Funny how that works.

Nothing to do with controlling rare earth minerals, of course. I believe, but cannot prove, that trump has been a Russian asset for decades.

That's all right.  One doesn't need proof to maintain a belief in the era of conmen, grifters, and charlatans.  At least there's public evidence to support your belief that Trump is a Russian asset. Lots of evidence.

That's dramatically different from, say, the belief that the 2020 election was stolen from Trump, or that Haitian immigrants were eating pets.  There's no evidence to support those and a host of other things that people believe about Krasnov.

...If unrest both at home and within our treasured alliances is the heart of our enemies' success, what then should one make of Trump's toadying call to Putin (recalling the shameful Helsinki bootlicking that Trump performed in 2018), followed by his wholesale adoption of Kremlin lies attacking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky that left even his most rabid Republican supporters in shocked dismay?

How should one think about Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth unconditionally surrendering to Russia's negotiating position on Ukraine (again, appalling senior Republicans), partially walking his statement back, and leaving all parties confused and demoralized? What should one conclude when Vice President JD Vance chastises our allies during a war where we are on the same side, and instead supports far-right forces closely aligned with Putin? Or when our best friends on Earth compare Trump's approach in Europe to Nazi appeasement?

Our unrest. Consider the past month of Trump's mass firings; followed by the unfirings when he realizes he's like a toddler pressing buttons in an air traffic control tower (a place Trump actually also fired workers). Think of the USAID shutdown, an act of mass suffering that betrays our would-be friends and hands the global competition for hearts and minds to China. Or the sudden, quixotic tariffs on Canada and Mexico. Or Trump calling himself a king.

Who is winning is all of this?...

What? Other countries that have enjoyed billions of dollars funded by the US want to keep the status quo? Nah? Really?

Vance said that Ukraine started the war?

I missed that and can't find anything by Google.   Perhaps you can help by providing a source?

Trump definitely forwarded that Russian propaganda.  Are you specifically only concerned about whether or not Vance repeated it and not that your president believes and says it?

When the "status quo" involves protecting sovereign countries from Russian aggression, that seems appropriate.

Trump supporters don't have the same values as the rest of us.
