7. what don't you like about your job? i have been losing much of my autonomy and management rarely includes my department in decision making processes that affect our practice. most anything that changes is dictated to the department and we are not a part of any true collaboration. there is rarely a formal plan- just an announcement about a change, regardless if we have addressed other issues that must be altered to accomodate the change. if we have a real concern, it is dismissed and there is never any true resolution to the concern. i will not be staying for much longer but that is the great thing about nursing- it is not difficult to move on to other opportunities.

Hello. I would like to explain my issue. I was hired on call, and was working on call and full time whenever full-time employees could not work. Overall, I worked 6 out of 12 months full time. In the last 4 months of 2011, I was working full time because I was replacing another full time nurse who was on maternity leave.

Since the beginning on January, no one has called me. I called the nurse who I trusted, and she told me my name was taken off the schedule and my name and phone number was whited out from employees phone number list.

I called DON and asked what I should expect(I did not tell her info I knew), and she told me I was on call. When I asked if I can use her as a reference, she said yes.

Later, another employee told me that they hired the sister of a full-time employee full time and that the sister of an owner was given on call position.

I look for another job now and understand that my job at that nursing home is over. However, did any of you ever see something like this done to your fellow coworker? Is what they did not me legal? Please comment.

Specializes in OB (with a history of cardiac).

ADN, will have BSN in December of this year. Also have an LPN diploma under my belt.

I live in MN

My job title is RN- cardiac/telemetry/progressive care

I make...I think 34 something an hour (that includes shift differential, since I work straight nights)

According to a rough calculation that equals out to about $35,000-$36,000 per year.

What I like about my job: I like my co-workers, I like teaching patients, I like learning new things myself. I like doing stuff. I like messing with stuff. I like figuring out how all that stuff works and keeps my patient alive.

What I don't like about my job: I don't particularly enjoy the high volume of drug seekers we get, and the tactics they use, I don't like waking my patients up, especially when I know they're going to be crotchety about it (and they've got a right...I guess). I don't always love working nights, I don't get to see my husband and kids as much. But I've been around on days, and I think nights are just a totally different world and scene. It's nice. Oh and I don't like the McHospital mentalitly, with scripts and "the customer is always right" idea that makes it ok for a patient to wig out at you and treat you like dung, and smack you around and then YOU get taken to task for their temper tantrum (I'm talking about completely congnisent people right now, mind you).
