Will green skin hurt my career?

Published

Hi all,

I have a big question and need only POSITIVE advice.

I'm 52 and have been a nurse for since 2002. I have always wanted to tint my skin green and dye my hair purple. I know it sounds odd but I feel it would be an accurate expression of my Zany personality. Do you think this would hurt my chances of getting into and NP program or hurt my future job prospects.

Remember I only want POSITIVE advice

Joking of course - but would really like replies

If it's your DREEEEEEEAAAAAAAM, you will achieve it!

You'll eventually be hired at a free clinic for $13.35 an hour. You'll then become a walking anecdote and give others of your kind hope.:uhoh3:

I believe Elphaba found it somewhat of a hindrance but I'm positive with the right accessories you can DO IT and get that dreeeeeaaaammmm job.

If I remember correctly Elphaba dreamed that the wizard would change her color but OP I bet you could rock those colors!

I don't know about your career but you'd make a great Orion from Star Trek!

dont they have those blue skinned people from down south?

can you imagine the poor confused old people tho? they wouldnt know if they were hallucinating or not lol

or coming into the pts room after they got some dilaudid " boy that's some good ****!" lol

I'm sure it would be acceptable, especially in a psych unit. "Why, yes, Mr. Doe, I do see the green people!"

Specializes in Med nurse in med-surg., float, HH, and PDN.

I am positively surprised that nobody has yet mentioned that "it's not easy being green".

I thought this was a kind of a joking, rhetorical post, similar to....will flunking NCLEX 6 times hurt my chances of getting hired....or will having 3 felonies prevent me from becoming a nurse.

By the way...I think green skin and purple hair sound really neat. I love people who are expressive, creative, flaunt social customs. I don't mean to equate you with students who fail NCLEX or have criminal records. But honestly I think it could hamper getting a job.

It realty was a joke - Thank You Everyone who played along

TRUE story: Mr. MaryJean had a roommate in college. (mid- 1970s) They were both studying to be ministers. Hallowe'en rolls around and roomie Roger decides to go as Hulk (who was only an obscure, comic-book character then). Roomie Roger takes a bath in green food color. Makes a great Hulk, all is well.

UNTIL Roger discovers that food color does not wash off immediately. His skin is green. And he is scheduled to preach his first sermon on Sunday. The very kind people of the little country church were very kind and allowed the show to go on.

LOL reminds me of my sister. She wanted to be Smurfette for Halloween one year- My mother had the great idea to use food coloring to dye her skin blue. She was tinted blue for what seemed like weeks!

Specializes in Psych ICU, addictions.

I'll confess: I'd love to be able to put colored accents in my hair--I'd get some Manic Panic and go to town. But my employers would not be fond of my having technicolor hair. So the decision comes down to this: do I want wildly colored hair or do I want to be able to pay my bills?

Since I don't have a sugar daddy/mommy or a trust fund to cover my bills for me, the accents will have to wait ;)
