Will green skin hurt my career?

Published

Hi all,

I have a big question and need only POSITIVE advice.

I'm 52 and have been a nurse for since 2002. I have always wanted to tint my skin green and dye my hair purple. I know it sounds odd but I feel it would be an accurate expression of my Zany personality. Do you think this would hurt my chances of getting into and NP program or hurt my future job prospects.

Remember I only want POSITIVE advice

Joking of course - but would really like replies

I am positively surprised that nobody has yet mentioned that "it's not easy being green".

Gotta have a picture.

OMG I'm DYING! :roflmao:

I saw the title, thought "what the..??" Clicked open the thread, read the first line, and thought "oh LORD here we go again!" And then I read the rest and you made my very aggravating afternoon much happier :)

Too funny.

Well.....I never....I will no longer believe any post I read on Allnurses.

If you were accepted into my NP :geek: program (which I am sure you would as we are that kind of group) I would want to sit next to you and ask you all kinds of questions and be your best bud. I have wanted to dye my hair blue for quite some time now and get a tattoo. I'm working myself up to it. You give me courage.

It realty was a joke - Thank You Everyone who played along

Oh. And here I was, about to talk about how I successfully managed to rock purple highlights in my hair throughout my last job and most of my grad program. The key is to put them in sneaky places so you can style your hair 1 way to show them off and another to cover them. You know...just...in case you decide someday that it's not a joke...

The green skin though? Probably not a good idea. :)

Green skin...

Just tell them you come from Somewhere, Over the Rainbow. Then cackle and wave a broom about. If they reject you just send your flying monkeys to get them... and their little dog too.

Well, now, I suspect the green skin will not be much of a problem. It's just that the ball-bearings surgically implanted beneath the skin of your bald head, the split tongue, and the red contact lenses might be a little disconcerting at the bedside @NICU. You might try a career in research, where your appearance will be less jarring.

Best of luck!

I'm over here singing the incorrect lyrics to the song from Eiffel 65 "I'm blue if I were green I would die, if I were green I would die......" lol

According to the ADA act of 1478, you're not allowed to be denied employment based on having purple/green hues attached to your body/hair. The FDA and FBI both monitor employers to be sure they comply with this law, so you'll be good to go girllllll.

Ummmmmmmmmmmmm.......................

It depends. It seems like where I'm at for a forensic nursing clinical rotation, it might fit in -- at least the purple hair.

Maybe if you serve a population that has a similar mindset when it comes to self-expression, it could be a boon.
