  1. Thank you for sharing this story. We have been taught to always "respect our elders" and for the most part I do, but I believe it's a two way street. Some, not all, elderly can be the most nasty, ugly people alive. Good for you for silencing them.
  2. Perfectly ok to not like HH, it's not everyone's cup of tea. Good luck on your search for a hospital job.
  3. If there's one thing I've learned in the 18 months since I started working home health, it's to be prepared for anything. Regardless of what the scheduler or office tells you about a client. The scheduler's priority is to get the case covered, so they really don't care about your comfort level or length of time with the agency. You may want to decline any further cases like this until you get a few more months of experience under your belt. I'm sorry this happened to you, and by the way, I think you handled the situation very well.
  4. I left a hospital job that I had held for 16 years to go into HH nursing about 18 months ago. I admit, I really struggled at first in home health, it is just....well, very different than floor nursing. Now, I feel I made the right decision. Like someone has pointed out, if you find it's not your cup of tea, you can always return to a hospital environment. Take a deep breath, relax, and if it doesn't work out, don't beat yourself up.
  5. Good for you! May you have many more years of sobriety.
