Why do so many cheerleaders enter nursing?

I would like to see some diversity. Why can't more nerdy girls become nurses?

I really can’t believe this a topic ?. I only knew of one nurse that was a cheerleader. Nurses tend to come from all walks of life with all different personalities and interests.

Exactly. What could be less relevant? When you're in the trenches together you hardly care what anyone did in a former life.

I feel like my years of doing spirit fingers have made my hands strong and especially well-prepared for the role of opening pill packs and hanging IV fluids..............I can't speak for what influenced other high school cheerleaders......... but that was my main appeal?

I knew a lot of female cheerleaders at my high school talked about wanting/going to nursing school on their facebooks but I honestly don't know if any of them made it. I also notice that it was the cheerleaders who were especially mean around the school.

the one cheerleader who's my friends is a dude and he's an ob tech so hopefully he gets his residency there once he graduates from nursing school.

I'm definitely a nerd.

Oddly enough my friend and I were just talking about how weve never seen an ugly nurse though ? so if you're going off of looks you might just not know

Well okay one time in middle school I tried to be a cheerleader but I wasnt good.

By the term "cheerleader", I assume you are referring to the mindset, and not the actual experience. I have, for a long time, noticed many new grads coming out of school who became nurses because someone told them it was an easy job that they could get anywhere, in any economy, and with only a two-year degree. Luckily for the rest of us, many wash out during school. But I have had snowflakes give me comments like "I didn't go to school to do this much charting", "but I was only 15 minutes late" to "No one can tell me I can't use my cell phone on the floor, that's not fair"... and the list goes on. My only hope is that many will grow tired of all the harassment they are receiving from people who expect them to do their jobs and leave the profession. Nursing continues to be a well-respected job filled with wonderful men and women who are in the profession to help others.

I assume the original poster was talking about their looks and not if they were actual cheerleaders. Like, "why do all the cute girls that all the boys like become nurses"...

I could be wrong.

Most people could be labeled as ‘cute’ in some way during their youth-then we get older and are referred to as nurse ratchet.

I am old. Definitely not a cheerleader.

Former electrical engineer, turned nurse to nurse practitioner. I have not met any ex-cheerleaders as coworkers in my almost ten years as a RN.

And in most circles I would most definitely be considered a NERD:)

I'm definitely a nerd. ??

I hear that pharmaceutical companies used to hire former cheerleaders as sales reps. Things are different now, but I remember the sales reps as young, attractive and outgoing.
