Why hasn’t pay increased? Hazard pay, etc.?

Why hasn’t pay increased? Hazard pay, etc.? Especially considering that multiple hospitals lack supplies for PPE and we are frontline workers.

I think its rude to not take into account the fact that HCWs are not provided proper PPE and NEVER signed up for that. These working conditions are utterly unacceptable and were completely preventable. This is the attitude that makes me want to leave nursing altogether. I'm so sick of this martyr mentality. Because then administration (and the public) expects it and cuts our resources to next to nothing, KNOWING we will just bend over. For crying out loud stand up for your profession and demand better.

You hit the nail on the head here, with this and all the comments you’ve added.

it’s pathetic that so many nurses have decided we get what we get and should just shut up about it

I don’t know if these nurses lack self esteem, have no loved ones or what but here’s what I know:

I am a wife, mom, daughter, sister, aunt and friend. I am someone.

If I’m risking my life daily due to lack of proper PPE then my bank account better be going up a lot more

then if I die from covid, at least my family can keep their head above water for a bit longer

Our hospital offers incentive pay to pick right now. Extra 15 an hour, plus if one goes into overtime, then more. I guess one can call it hazard pay.I looked today, and the only openings are on the COVID-19 floor, so no, thank you.

It’s a good incentive if you are comfortable working in the environment. If I was 20 years younger and healthier I would totally volunteer.

Because nurses are "helpers". We put other people before ourselves. This is why HCW are now dying of COVID-19.

Our local garbage collectors went on strike until they were provided more PPE and hazard pay. Garbage collectors.

I will quit before I risk my life with inadequate preparation, protection and equipment provided by my employer.

And let’s not forget that management absolutely knows our proclivities to jump in and help and will exploit the hell out of that

Pay hasn’t increased because nurses keep going to work for the same amount of money. I’m short the employer has no need to pay you more so they won’t. Simple economic decision it was the same before the virus

Just work some overtime if you need more money! I am sure OT is plenty! This definitely is not the time to ask for hazard pay.

I've noticed for the past three days that my employer is advertising several openings for a dollar or three more than they pay me and my coworkers. No mention whatsoever about raising our pay. Just more reason to get more unhappy pay wise. Another employer has been advertising for at least three weeks that they will meet or exceed one's present pay. They also gave numbers for the amount of available work. I really wonder how many people are attracted to that particular employer. Relative told me to get on with the new employer for more pay and dump the present employer. Something to think about.

But only with proper safeguards. Reusing surgical masks? No. Forbidden to bring own PPE if one has it? No. Other poor practices, whether through stupidity, or lack of resources? No. No amount of money is going to bring back someone who dies from this.

Hello, in your opinion when would be a good time to ask for hazard pay? Just curious

Yeah, our hospital system sent out email last night saying: " We are going to ask hospital staff and outpatient locations to wear a surgical mask for the whole shift". Now I will probably need to dip into my mask stash. ?

I was able to buy some PPE for myself from kn95supply.com and even got my Supply Chain officer to make a bulk order with them.
