Television does not provide the proper respect due the profession.
Over the years their have been a few actors that have done justice to the role of nurse.
Who is your favorite TV or movie Nurse?
I just thought of two more of my faves...Bobbie Spencer,RN (played by Jequeline Zeman) on General Hospital...all those years ago...(now I'm telling my age!) and Lillian Raines, RN on Guiding Light...both stong and independant personalities! :)
You know what always cracks me up about medical personnel on soap operas, though? None of them seem to have any specialty. Today, Lillian might be working oncology and tomorrow peds. (I don't know if she's even still on GL, I'm just using her as an example). My husband likes the Young and the Restless and it happens there, too. Dr. Olivia Winters can be found practicing anywhere in the hospital, be it neurosurgery or L&D, in any given situation.

My family watches Y&R and you're so right about Olivia. I'm just glad recently that they didn't have Olivia perform Cassie's brain surgery LOL. That would have been too much. (as if it isn't already I know)

That's so true! I agree...the nurses on soaps are a BIT unrealistic...but entertaining, nonetheless!! Funny how they always seem to have plenty of time on their hands, as well!!?? I guess that is SOAP OPERA MAGIC...the same magic that allows any children that are born on the show to age at an astonishingly quick rate!!
My vote would definitely be for Margaret Houlihan and other nurses of M.A.S.H. Like few T.V. shows depicting nurses, M.A.S.H. shows nurses who can triage, advocate for their patients, close for the surgeons, identify post-op complications, and think for themselves. They are not the physician's handmaidens but a respected part of the healthcare team. The same can not be said for any contemporary TV show I've seen except for ER.
