i sit in the front row, front and center. i have been doing this since i started college in 2006. i'm hoping i can secure my front seat spot for my last two classes in ns.
if i sit in the middle or back rows i get very distracted :uhoh3:. so far it has worked well for me. where do you guys prefer to sit in lecture ?
I sit in the back - always the back. I try not to sit with my back immediately to the door also. I want to be able to leave quickly, but I want to be able to see anything that comes through the door without having to actively look at it. I'm like this everywhere. I don't even stand in line like a normal person. I tend to stand sideways. I can't stand people coming up behind me, plus I like being able to see what everyone else is doing and prefer they not see whatever I'm doing when in a room. Although I'm in college (again) I don't think of myself really as being in college. At any rate, when I was in college (first degree back when) I remember walking into a class one day and having only one seat available on the front row of a lecture hall. I turned around and left, lol.
Not really accurate. I'm an 'assertive learner'...but, I don't ask questions and provide insight and such. I don't need to control the pace of the class, either. No one along the 'front' in my class does, really. They're majority 'quiet ones'.
Questions and cpmments always come from the back and middle.
Why? I dont know. For me, I may ask a direct 'for clarification purposes' question but that's every blue moon. Most things can be cleared up in the lecture. If I need in-depth 'help' with a concept? I'll wait until after class.
Simple as that.
I don't like to take up my instructor/classmates time asking lots of questions...and, y'know? Constantly being 'called on' and directly quizzed in front of my classmates by an instructor does bother me.
It comes with the territory (of sitting on 'front row'). Still, just b/c I sit 'up front' doesn't mean that I want to play 50 Questions.
I'm quiet. Dislike being put on the spot. Generally don't like to talk in class. Don't like being the center of attn...and this is what some instructors either don't get or simply ignore.
Sometimes, I purposely answer incorrectly or 'shrug'...because I don't want to be bothered.
Eventually, they move on.
There are always exceptions to the "rule" We need people like you to mix it up now and then. :)
I start class tomorrow but already know where I am going to sit...front and center!! Mostly because class is held in a lecture room and there would be no room for my bookbag if I sat with rows in front of me. Second, because I'm easily distracted and would be watching what everyone in front of me is doing rather than concentrating and focusing on my instructor!
I sit in either the back 3 - 5 rows kind of in the middle. It's a bit irritating because I sit a few columns down from a group who always talks and there's one guy, and I know he probably can't help it, must have a deviated septum or something because he snorts like every 20 seconds. I usually tune it out since I've had a couple of months to get used to it but every now and then...

I used to always sit in the front because I got to distracted in the back. But then I found friends just like me and we would go into laughing spasms from our witty comments we whispered to eachother that I ended up moving to the back so I didn't distract others when I was laughing so hard I would be crying.
