Where do you sit in lecture

Published

i sit in the front row, front and center. i have been doing this since i started college in 2006. i'm hoping i can secure my front seat spot for my last two classes in ns.

if i sit in the middle or back rows i get very distracted :uhoh3::uhoh3:. so far it has worked well for me. where do you guys prefer to sit in lecture ?

I love seeing people's reactions when others do that to them. It was even better when we did that with faculty (like in the area where we ate and had meetings). Not on purpose, but if a new person, adjunct or guest was there and didn't know that one particular faculty member had HER seat, it was great to see her squirm :lol2:

I agree it is pretty funny to see. I seen other people get really upset about it though. :uhoh3::uhoh3:

When a student sat in a seat I sat at every day I usually don't get bothered, we Do Not have assigned seats and no where did I see my name written on the chair. Too funny though.

My group and I sit front and center:yeah:We dont want to miss anything:confused:

I normally sit somewhere in the middle. No real reason why.

In the back!!! My class is fairly small so my "back row" may be others front or middle?

Front row, closest to the door. Or back row, closest to the door. Whichever is closest to the door. I only do that for classes, for some reason. I don't care where the door is in any other situation.

Front row. Left side of the class b/c I like to lean against the wall.

Also? Since most don't like to sit in the prof's eyeballs, there's always extra space...which is great (for me).

Because NOW...I can prop my legs up and 'lounge' while I 'lean'...(and listen/learn).

Also, I don't take traditonal 'notes'. So, I have to be where I can focus and hear the instructor best.

Some posters mention that they must sit in the back to tune out distractions? I'm very good at tuning things out.

I don't 'people-watch' and I'm oblivious to anything going on behind me.

So oblivious, in fact, that we're 2 weeks from our third semester and I STILL don't know the names of about 75% of my class.

*laugh*

...but, they know mine (and others in the 'front'), for some reason.

*laugh*

I don't turn around everytime someone asks a question. I mostly just cock my head and listen.

I don't sit in the middle unless it's directly behind the front row. *laugh*

The backrow? That's usually for the 'Clowns'/Talkers. They're funny...but, you can't hear crap for the near constant murmuring/chuckling/giggling/joking around. The 'quiet ones' near the back are always frustrated and 'shushing' themselves silly, like, "Wait wha -- ? What did she say? I can't hear.... You said what, ma'am?"

*laugh*

Either way, this is funny. I wasn't truly conscious of my seating preferences, until this thread.

LOL

Dude, that annoys the hell out of me. I've had that happen to me once. Most people 'get it'. But, there's always that one rare individual who likes to 'test limits'.

One day, I come in at 8:57. Like, 10 minutes later than usual. I sign in. Quick wave and greet to some classmates.

Get to the second row. Prepare to sling backpack off shoulders and...what the--?

Some broad was in my seat!

What the hell, man?

Mind you, this isn't an auditorium. This is a classroom. Everyone's picked their seats and everyone else knows where everyone sits. We were almost 2 weeks into class. It's too late to be saying, "Oh - I don't want this seat. I want to sit over here'.

Finally she looks up at me; I looked at her with a confused expression.

I said, "What is this...'musical chairs'?"

I was serious, but, I said it in a joking manner. Everyone w/in earshot chuckled.

She looked embarassed, "Oh..."

Not embarassed enough to move, though.

*laugh*

Anyway, y'know -- I gotta be honest: That really f'ed up my morning...*laugh*

BECAUSE...I was banished to the 'back' middle row.

Yak, yak, yak!

...and for, a day and a half, my quality of learning/retention suffered.

*sigh*

I did make my way back to the front on the otherside though.

I always try to sit in the middle or the row right before the back, I would like to sit in the back but I feel the teacher would think I wasn't a serious student or something, but I always like to sit at the end no matter what row i'm in. I start school in less than a week and I hope we have tables I hate desks, I feel like a little high schooler sitting at a desk.

Here is an interactive diagram that tells you what your seat choice says about you. Just click the seat where you normally sit. :)

Not really accurate. I'm an 'assertive learner'...but, I don't ask questions and provide insight and such. I don't need to control the pace of the class, either.

No one along the 'front' in my class does, really. They're majority 'quiet ones'.

Questions and cpmments always come from the back and middle.

Why? I dont know. For me, I may ask a direct 'for clarification purposes' question but that's every blue moon. Most things can be cleared up in the lecture. If I need in-depth 'help' with a concept? I'll wait until after class.

Simple as that.

I don't like to take up my instructor/classmates time asking lots of questions...and, y'know? Constantly being 'called on' and directly quizzed in front of my classmates by an instructor does bother me.

It comes with the territory (of sitting on 'front row'). Still, just b/c I sit 'up front' doesn't mean that I want to play 50 Questions.

I'm quiet. Dislike being put on the spot. Generally don't like to talk in class. Don't like being the center of attn...and this is what some instructors either don't get or simply ignore.

Sometimes, I purposely answer incorrectly or 'shrug'...because I don't want to be bothered.

Eventually, they move on.

I sit all the way to the back!

I sit in the front row on the left side. We have two projectors, one on the right and one on the left, so I'm directly in front of one of them.

Last year I sat on the second row, end seat closest to the power outlet for my computer. This year I am sitting upstairs in the very front row, so I can see the video conference screen

Well, doing lecture we have two sections so I sit on the front row of the second section so that I can look at the projection screen without moving my head all around just to look at the full screen.
