No one is even outraged on this thread. Nurses are our own worst enemies.

That coward would've gotten introduced to to a rear naked choke hold and rapid controlled change in plane to the floor. Followed by a session of percussive maintenance to the brain housing group, if that went down on my floor.

I hope this does happen. I hope for more, but I'm realistic.

And don't tell me to move along. Nurses need to speak OUT when stuff like this happens.

I think offlabel meant the "move along" line to be tongue in cheek, meaning the story will quickly be swept under the rug by hospital admin and the media.

Take a seat. Literally.

Why down play it? Change should occur.

This is true, and sad.

Yet it still seemed like a call to shut down the talk. Because if what you say is true, there is no point in continuing the conversation and we should just give up on the idea that it's not okay for doctors to assault nurses.

Secondly, I don't agree that no change will come of it. Just the amount of publicity something like this gets is instrumental in pulling back that curtain.

BTW, physicians don't get away with treating nurses like crap where I've worked. It's not necessarily ubiquitous.

Agreed ^^^. We need to keep talking about this. We need to be outraged. This needs to stop being a norm.

And for those of you saying, "I'd give the guy and upper cut" or "use those safety scissors ..." I was assaulted by a patient last weekend. I didn't see it coming, although I knew he was agitated. Once the guy was on me I didn't have a chance; it was all I could do to keep moving and it wasn't til other staff came that I was OK. When you're in a position like that your chances go wayyyyyy down because the element of surprise gets you. It also didn't help this guy was probably 150 lbs and an entire foot bigger than me.

This nurse was lucky. This guy needs to be in jail, whatever his excuse. He could have killed her. He definitely changed her life forever.

It makes me sick, and that he's still full of excuses in this article makes me ragey.

I'm so sorry this happened to you, pixie. Carp.

I know quite a few nurses that were assaulted and I've had 2 phones thrown at my head and been groped numerous times. Patients and DOCS on the groping.

any one could be posting with her name.

Wait... I need to be better informed. How does someone fake a facebook profile? I know there's hacking and all, but if someone is posting on a legitimate facebook page and you click on their profile and everything in the profile revolves around OR nurse life, with tons of OR pics covering many years, how can that be faked?

Asking because I don't want to have wrong ideas about how things work

If what you wanted me to say is "doctors choking nurses is wrong and should be opposed by everyone everywhere", I now say and endorse that. Sorry for not being more clear. I wasn't aware that it was generally considered to be OK or the norm anywhere.

Why wasn't this guy taken to jail vs. escorted off the premesis.... does that mean the incident occured and they didn't immediately call the police? I want to know the real story here because anyone else in would be wearing handcuffs and processed. I'd like to know what the other nurse did when she observed the choking and how the rest of events transpired. Did this guy release her neck then go about his regular business? Did the hospital beg the nurse to not call the police?

What does "no intent" mean? He had no intent of killing her? He had no intent of cutting off her entire air supply? He had no intent of making her lose conciousness? And NOT ONCE in the article does he say "I'm sorry."

I can't believe the other Facebook post from another nurse. Why would anyone rally around this guy for what he did? It doesn't matter if he is a "nice guy," or if he doesn't have a record. It doesn't matter if this was the most Nurse Ratched OR nurse: this is not how our society is supposed to deal with problems. Surely this is not our new reality?

And don't touch my monitors, Doctor. I hope she gets a big payout for this.

Specializes in PACU, OR.

Hey Davey! Nice to virtually see you. I wonder if he's not due for a dementia evaluation? Could be EOA.

That SOB needs be be jailed immediately if not sooner. Over the years I have watched these a..hole physicians routinely disregard rules and regulations from the simple to more important, without any regard for patient or nurse safety. And as someone who recently retired from the bedside of nursing I understand the mind frame of "I'm done with this, I can just do whatever and no one will care". The obvious issue is this a..hole's state of mental health and how many other times he has been abusive and irresponsible. When my nursing students tell me that they want to be CRNA's, I admit I categorize them as someone who really does not want to deal with patients except as a "hi how are you, I'm going to put you to sleep and wake you up". I'm sure his social skills were dismal at best and I bet when they start looking closer they will find a lot of skeletons in the closet. I challenge everyone who read that news bulletin to follow it and make sure that this nurse's dignity and professionalism are upheld, not to mention that this was an intent to hurt someone so they would shut up.

Whatever the cause for his aggression, glad he will no longer be practicing.

Aggressive behavior should not be tolerated in a facility, at any level.
