What's the oddest thing you've done for a student?

Y'all.

I just legit wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy.

First grader swallowed the errant tooth (or maybe he lost it in the lunch room, who can say?) I called mom just to let her know. Mom said that two teeth were loose (I only saw one socket). Kid was worried because all his friends said Tooth Fairy doesn't come without a tooth....

And I wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy so the kid wouldn't be sad. Nobody warned me pre-K- first are so darn cute.

I had to use cooking oil (cold) to get a kids head unstuck from between two bars on a staircase. He stuck his head between the poles and couldn't get it out, we had tried everything (soap, vaseline...etc...). So I said I wonder if the cafeteria has anything...sure enough they had cooking oil! Worked great! Kid was fine!

I had the same thing! I had a student get a toothpick stuck between her knee high boot and knee and knelt full force. Luckily mom was at the school, I sent her to the ER because medium force didn't budge it. It had gone in about 1.25 inches. She still has it in a specimen cup with the blood line showing how deep.

removed a giant glob of slime from a kids hair. I mean a GIANT gob. Like - I CAN'T leave it there gob. Parents too far away and kid in full on panic mode. For the record, it was the bodywash sample that i got from p&g that did the trick.

My students toothpick went about an 1" in and I was able to pull it out smoothly, thankfully! ?

FYI-vinegar gets slime out of ANYTHING. Not that a kid would want to go around smelling like an easter egg all day at school, but I've removed TONS from my carpet using vinegar and if I had to use it in my own kid's hair, I'd do it.

• Sewed a blanket from home so a student wouldn't "lose circulation to [my] leg in the middle of the night"
• Poured chocolate milk into a plastic cup so they could make sure there was nothing else in the cafeteria carton
• Driven the forgotten diabetic care kit (only one meter ?) to students house so they were safe all weekend...no one was home and mom said door was unlocked! Was hoping it wasn't a prank.
• Removed an arm from between the railing and the staircase...that was almost a call to the fire department
• GOT A STUDENTS EAR UNATTACHED FROM THE UNDERSIDE OF HIS DESK...I don't know if there's any way to explain the situation to make sense....
• Drained pus from the worst ear infection I've ever seen. Got about 45mLs of green, clumpy, pus!

All instances weird in their own way. There's probably more but I can't think of any right now....TGIF

I wish I remembered half the things that have made me say "I can't believe I'm doing this" or "what? no! That's not my job... Oh let's see it..."

Coming to mind is:

-telling a child that the white and red thing on his tray was overbaked cheese with pizza sauce, not a tooth.

-using hemostats to disentangle the curly looped end of a RC car antenna from a pair of basketball shorts where it got woven around and hooked into those tiny eye holes in the fabric in multiple spots

-tried to ease an earring back off the earring...after the earlobe had started to regrow around it. Had to defer that to the doctor.

-A couple girls at lunch decided to wad up the wax covering from a Babybel cheese into a sticky ball, then one girl thought it would be funny to stick it in the other girl's hair. Uh, no! That was a joy to try to remove and we ended up just calling the parent, because the waxy mess caused a huge ugly clumpy red knot in her hair.
