Y'all.

I just legit wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy.

First grader swallowed the errant tooth (or maybe he lost it in the lunch room, who can say?) I called mom just to let her know. Mom said that two teeth were loose (I only saw one socket). Kid was worried because all his friends said Tooth Fairy doesn't come without a tooth....

And I wrote a note to the Tooth Fairy so the kid wouldn't be sad. Nobody warned me pre-K- first are so darn cute.

And while doing so, it made me realize my school should teach students basic sewing skills.

Home ec is so important. When I was in high school I took two home ec classes which was frowned upon for students in the honors/ap classes. I'm still happy I learned cooking, knife skills, sewing, even did a whole lesson on budgeting and balancing check books. Our largest budgeting project was planning a wedding. I actually used 90% of that plan when I got married 10 years later. I emailed my old home ec teacher and told her. She was thrilled.

We are so concerned about honors classes and getting kids into college that we completely neglect this. My opinion. There should be an honors life skills that teaches sewing, basic first aid, how to balance a checkbook, and how to research political candidates on the LOWV or other acceptable source website.

and basic coping skills with life in general

This literally JUST happened in the last hour. But not for a student, for the science teacher. Our school unfortunately has a mouse issue b/c they are doing construction to expand half the building and we are in an urban setting. Anyway, the science teacher just found a little mouse in the girl's bathroom, looking a little under the weather, so she put him in a little container and brought him to her office. Her office mate lost her mind and told her no way could the mouse stay in there. It is torrential rain and wind here as we have a Nor'Easter right now, so she didn't want to just dump the little guy out on the street for fear he would drown or freeze. SO, me being the lover of ALL creatures offered to babysit the mouse in my office while she taught science. So little mouse has been chilling in my office in the box. BUT, I guess he REALLY wasn't feeling well b/c he just ran in about 6 circles, keeled over, and died ?

I too have had a kiddo lose their lost tooth. I wrote this and send it home with the kiddo if it happens:

You and the science teacher are so sweet! Poor little mouse - RIP little guy!

This thread jinxed me!!!

I just had 3 giggling 6th graders come to the clinic. 2 carrying a binder that was attached to the 3rd girl's hair. I legit barely touched the strand of hair and it slipped right out!!

I must have some magic fingers......
